đź’™Program: We welcomed Master Gardeners Linda Simpson and Ellen Collins from the St. Peter's Charity Gardens. Linda and Ellen are deeply committed to producing vegetables and herbs for the local food pantries. The property they use has been sold to a developer, and eventually they will have to move.

The criteria for a new location includes a one acre plot, clean water, lockable fence, parking, sheds, security cameras, shade, and restrooms or portable toilets.

🍅🫛They collect their own seeds to keep them pure and grow beans in vertical rows to save space and produce crops in volume. 15 different herbs and a variety of vegetables are harvested, weighed, bagged and delivered.

đźšżWatering is done by hand from a well and rain barrels. They use 2- gallon watering cans to move 11,000 gallons of water. Volunteers are always needed.

Our thanks to Andrea Yeip for inviting them back. President Bill presented them with a donation to help defer expenses. “Sowing Seeds for Those In Need”

➡️Please consider donating a 2-gallon watering can for this worthy cause. Meijer’s, Walmart, Lowes, & Home Depot are good sources. Bring them to a meeting and they will be delivered!

đź’™Program: We welcomed Joshua Ringstad, Fire Inspector for the Mount Clemens Firefighters Local 838. Mr. Ringstad is a familiar face at Trinity Lutheran. He grew up next door, attended class here until 8th grade, and sends his children here to school.

The Mount Clemens Fire Department employs one Inspector, one chief, one administrative assistant, and 12 members in Suppression that are trained EMT’s or Paramedics. Joshua worked as a firefighter from 2016 to 2022 when he filled the position of Fire Inspector. The department had gone without an Inspector for a decade before that and many structures in town went without inspections for those years. What technology was there was outdated and archaic. He has updated the electronic platform and got an ordinance passed in 2025 that gave some teeth to his code enforcement. Safety concerns like exit signs, clear paths to exit doors, and storage of dangerous materials top his list of violations.

At present, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department handles all arson investigations. The Mount Clemens Fire Department offers smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors to area residents at no cost.

Our thanks to Norb Leach for inviting Inspector Ringstad to make a presentation.

A Message of Gratitude from the Kiwanis Club of Mount Clemens 🇺🇸
Since our club was chartered in 1921, generations of Mount Clemens families have gathered to honor patriotic holidays together. Today is a sacred day of reflection.

While our daily focus is providing service, events, and fundraising to uplift local children, we know that none of this would be possible without the ultimate sacrifices made by our military heroes. The liberty to gather, support one another, and mentor the next generation is their lasting legacy.

We hope our neighbors take a meaningful moment today to pause, remember, and say thank you.

💙Program: We welcomed Anna Swiontoniowski, a Guide for City Institute. City Institute “provides a deeper understanding of Detroit’s assets, history and challenges so its residents and stakeholders can be better equipped to shape an equitable and thriving city”.

Anna presented a comprehensive and deeply appreciative summary of Detroit with lists of restaurants, museums, and world-renowned architecture. Detroit has the 2nd largest Theatre District in the United States, the Eastern Market is the oldest in the country, and Belle Isle is an urban gem.

The Birwood Wall still stands as a reminder of its segregated past, although the wall is now covered in colorful murals next to a park. The community of Highland Park, located in the middle of Detroit, was created by Henry Ford in an attempt to avoid city taxes. City Institute seeks to attract and retain talent, engage & inspire residents, promote small business and build an equitable and thriving place.

The Avenue of Fashion has more than 200 black-owned businesses, 65% owned by women. Future projects include the Joe Lewis Greenway, a 27 mile circle and a 4 ½ mile River Walk. Their tag slogan is “Detroit is big enough to matter in the world and small enough for you to matter in it” They can be contacted at WWW.THECITYINSTITUTE.COM or call 313-883-9141. Our

đź’™Program: We welcomed Julian Roper, Superintendant of Mount Clemens Community Schools. Mr. Roper is a family man with a wife and three children. He is beginning his 3rd year with the district with a focus on data-driven decisions and improving student outcomes. He boasted that 100% of the 2025 seniors graduated!

Mr. Roper inherited some challenging building issues with the historical section of the campus, but replaced the roof to make it more useable. They now lease space to The Henry Ford Health Clinic and The Early Childhood program. Diversity includes all students and a strategic plan with a shared vision is his goal with the best staff possible. The majority of Mount Clemens students come from our community with an increase of 46 new students this year – the ONLY district to increase enrollment.

New classes include Skilled Trades and the popular Drone “Code 586” career opportunity for licensed drone operators. He has recently added a Special Education Director for the 212 students with disabilities and a Curriculum/Enrichment Director.

Our thanks to Shane Gianino.

💙Program: Lauren Payton is the Community Engagement Coordinator at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. She educates on the dangers of a toxic environment, including Lead, Algae, Mercury, Fish & Wild Game, and PFA’s. Lead is found in paint, soil and water, Algae Bloom contaminates drinking water, Mercury bio-accumulates in the food chain, and PFA’s are manmade chemicals, harmful to human health. They can be found in landfills, manufacturing facilities, airports & military bases, and farmland. She suggested a web site for a household data base called whatsinproducts.com. Certain fish can accumulate toxins and should be limited to eight points per month, with points being assigned by the MDHHS. Salmon and Perch each have 1 point, where Cod and Tuna have 2 points each. Shark, Swordfish and King Mackerel should not be eaten at all. The Environmental Health Bureau can be reached at Michigan.gov/EnvironHealth, or call 800-648-6942.

Our thanks to Melissa Aitkens Goins for inviting Lauren to present an interesting and educational program.
