August Mentor of the Month: Axnerys Gonzalez! ๐ŸŒŸ

This month, we're celebrating Axnerys Gonzalez for her incredible dedication as a CCEF mentor since 2024. Axnerys has been mentoring Ariadne Sales Piox since 1st grade, and Ariadne is now in 4th grade!

That kind of consistency and commitment makes a real difference in a child's life. Thank you, Axnerys, for showing up for Ariadne year after year and being such a positive influence in her journey. We are so grateful to have you as part of our mentor family!

Congratulations, Axnerys, on being our August Mentor of the Month!

One Book, Lots of Ways to Read! ๐Ÿ“–

This week, Salley shares simple tips for reading The Animal Song, one of the fun books from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library made possible in part by the United Way of Colquitt County!

Talk about the pictures. What do you see happening on each page?

Get silly with the noise words. They're a great way to keep little ones engaged and excited to turn the page!

Pause and talk about how the characters might be feeling. It's an easy way to build empathy and vocabulary at the same time.

Reading together doesn't have to look one way. There are so many ways to make story time interactive, fun, and full of connection. Which tip will you try next time you read together? Let us know in the comments!

All of us at CCEF echo these words. Dolly was more than a musician to the children of Colquitt County โ€” she was, and will always be, The Book Lady.

CCEF is honored and humbled to be an extension of Dollyโ€™s lifeโ€™s work to ensure that children have books in their hands and homes.

Thank you, Dolly. We celebrate your impact!

According to our local expert The Brilliance of Babies , there are 4 types of books every baby bookshelf needs!

Story Books - build early language and imagination
Predictable Books - repetition builds confidence and helps babies "read along"
Rhyming Books - rhythm and sound patterns support brain development
Informational Books - introduce real-world concepts and new vocabulary

Swipe to see why each type matters and how it supports your child's growth!

Introducing a new series: Celebrating Our 2025-2026 School Year! ๐Ÿ“š

Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing stats straight from our Report Card, numbers that reflect the incredible efforts of our board, staff, mentors, school system, teachers, donors, and volunteers last school year.

To kick things off, we're starting with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library!

In partnership with United Way of Colquitt County, DPIL provided over 2,000 local children with a free book every single month this year. That's more than 24,000 books placed directly into the hands of Colquitt County kids, building home libraries and a lifelong love of reading before they even start school.

Thank you to everyone who makes this program possible. Stay tuned for more highlights from an incredible year!

As a proud partner of United Way of Colquitt County, Colquitt County Educational Foudnation knows what this community can do when it shows up for its neighbors! It's the reason we're able to fund baby packer kits, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to children 0-5, and mentoring across our schools.

Join the United Way of Colquitt County Thursday, September 17 at Courthouse Square for an evening of incredible local food, live music, games, and family fun, all in support of local nonprofits and programs.

20+ local restaurants and vendors. Live music. Games and family-friendly activities.

Tickets are on sale now. Sponsorship opportunities are also available if your business wants to help power an even bigger night for Colquitt County.

Good food. Great company. Greater impact. Together, we change lives.

๐Ÿ“ฌ There is something magical about getting mail when you are little.
Not a bill. Not a flyer. Something just for you, with your name on it, sitting right there in the mailbox waiting to be opened.

That is exactly what Dolly Parton's Imagination Library does for children in Colquitt County every single month. From the time they are born until the day they turn five, enrolled kids receive a brand new book delivered straight to their home. And if you have ever watched a child tear into a package that belongs to them, you already know what that moment feels like.

It is theirs. It is exciting. And without even realizing it, they are learning that books are something worth getting excited about.

That is how a reader is made. Not in a classroom, but in a moment. A small, ordinary, magical moment at the mailbox.

Thanks to our partners United Way of Colquitt County and Colquitt Regional Medical Center, enrollment is free and open to all children ages 0 to 5 in Colquitt County. Visit https://tinyurl.com/DPILColquitt to sign your child up today.
