2. An end to state violence and the criminalization of dissent, and the suspension and prosecution of police officers accused of beating protesters and sexually assaulting women.

3. The immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, and an independent constitutional inquiry into the SIR under the President of India.

4. An immediate halt to the SIR and the restoration of every eligible voter wrongly deleted.

5. Accountability for electoral irregularities in the Bihar and West Bengal elections.

6. That the U.S. government and Congress publicly condemn the crackdown and raise it directly with the Indian government.

In West Bengal, the fallout from the SIR—which left 9.6 million registered voters, or 12% of the state population, off the electoral rolls—has moved beyond the right to vote.
