Project Chimps

Project Chimps OFFICIAL PAGE of Project Chimps, a non-profit sanctuary for former research chimpanzees in North GA.

Project Chimps was founded in late 2014 by a “super group” of chimpanzee, nonprofit, philanthropic, and legal experts to solve the critical question of what would happen to the hundreds of chimps still left in private biomedical research. After months of negotiations with the research institutions, Project Chimps secured agreements to permanently retire the chimpanzees. This was a colossal step in

the right direction, and we are proud and grateful to our partners for making this decision for the betterment of the chimpanzees in their care. Join us in celebrating a birthday this week!

Eddie turned 22 on Sunday.

Eddie enjoys watching other groups of chimps in north and south habitat, so much so that he doesn't like to leave a porch for too long. Recently, he has improved with his shifting to the other porch when we need him to. He also has been going into the Annex more often but not for too long at a time. Eddie's best friend is Lance. Sometimes they get upset with each other, but they always make up.

If you'd like to send him a birthday gift, check out our Amazon Wish List where the Care Staff has prioritized whatever toys, snacks or plushies are needed right now! And, the best part, they can be delivered directly to the sanctuary! https://a.co/83vEVmI

Thanks to your support, all six new chimpanzees have arrived safely at Project Chimps—and today we’re excited to introduce another one of these unforgettable personalities.

Say hello to our second newcomer: Charlie!

Charlie is full of character… especially when it comes to food and drinks! He LOVES liquids and never hesitates to show it—often stomping or banging on the mesh the moment he knows a drink is headed his way. In Charlie’s world, anything edible is fair game, and he approaches every meal with bold enthusiasm and total confidence. When snacks aren’t the main event, you can often find Charlie stretched out on the floor in full relaxation mode, making himself right at home. He also looks strikingly similar to his full brother, Tony—a resemblance our care team noticed immediately.

We can’t wait to share more about Charlie as he settles in, along with stories from the rest of the newcomer group. To help with their ongoing care, you can donate here: https://ow.ly/yBZO50Z4I9G Your support is already making such a meaningful difference in their new lives. 💚

Last week, thanks to your incredible support, all six newcomers arrived safely at Project Chimps! We are thrilled to introduce you to the first newcomer: Twirp.

Twirp wasted no time making an impression. When he arrived, he made sure to greet every single human one by one. He’s already showing off a playful and expressive personality. Twirp has been known to randomly shout into the void (we’re still trying to figure out what he’s saying!), and he plays with Charlie most often. And when Twirp wants something, he makes his demands known by wiggling his hand at you as if to say, “give me!”

We’re so excited to continue sharing updates with you as we get to know all six of these incredible individuals!

Thanks to your generosity, their journey to sanctuary is just beginning — and you can still help shape the next chapter by donating to their care: https://ow.ly/5B2e50Z4H6C. Every dollar donated right now is being matched, doubling your impact on their care and new lives.

And for donors giving $1,000 or more, you’ll receive a very special opportunity: a front-row seat (in person or virtual) to watch these six chimpanzees step outside into the Peachtree Habitat for the very first time. 💚
