The Small Business Administration defines a small business as an independent business with fewer than 500 employees. That means that of the 7,500+ businesses in Iredell County, more than 99% of them are small businesses. We work diligently to connect business owners with the resources they need to navigate the many stages of their business journey.

One of those resources is the Small Business Center, Mitchell Community College.

WELCOME TO OUR HOUSE!

On June 3, we invited the Industry Leaders to join us for an INDUSTRY LEADERS COUNCIL at Merino Mill Mooresville, home to numerous businesses, shops, restaurants, and, of course, Iredell EDC.

Like most great events, we gathered close to the kitchen of Picasso Mediterranean Taqueria, one of the beautiful restaurants owned by Michal Bay. Our discussion centered on a topic 80% of businesses have identified as a growing concern, the rising costs of health insurance and benefits. Fortunately, the experts were on hand, and Peet Pollion and Nancy Perri of our event sponsor, NFP, an Aon company, shared very real insights and solutions.

We then visited one of our favorite neighbors, DEHN, Inc. While they were very busy, as always, they were most hospitable. We then took a quick turn around the Small Business Innovation Hub.

Of course, Southern hospitality demands we share a meal. Special thanks to Picasso Taqueria for the great food!

You only need to drive our roads and highways or stroll downtown sidewalks to know we live in a growing area.

We recently shared the latest statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau showing that Iredell County leads the Charlotte Metro in population growth. Between July 2024 and July 2025, Iredell’s population grew by almost 3%, adding nearly 5,700 people.

Where are all these people?

Well, they seem to be all coming together in the one place !

FUN FACT, the City of Statesville NC ranks #3 in the region with a 3.3% growth!
