Princeton Hydro is currently removing spatterdock from Strawbridge Lake as part of an ongoing effort to improve water quality and enhance the habitat for the fish, wildlife, and other organisms that call the lake home. Excessive spatterdock growth can contribute to low dissolved oxygen levels and elevated nutrient concentrations, which can negatively impact the overall health of the lake.
Using a process known as mechanical hydro-raking, Princeton Hydro's amphibious tracked equipment loosens and removes the spatterdock and its root system. The plant material is then brought to the surface for collection and proper disposal. This work is being performed in accordance with NJDEP permits and is expected to be completed before July 1.
