Photos from FEP's annual Monarch Butterfly Workshop last month at the Moorestown Friends Meetinghouse, in which more than 70 people gathered for a presentation by environmentalist Glenn Curtis, with live monarch butterfly eggs, caterpillars, chrysalises, and adult butterflies.
Glenn discussed the life cycle of monarch butterflies, their migration, their importance as pollinators, and what we can do to make a difference.
Glenn called on children in the audience, some of them dressed for the occasion in monarch butterfly costumes, to re-enact the life cycle of monarch butterflies using caterpillar and butterfly props as he spoke.
Afterwards, Glenn took questions from the audience, then allowed attendees to visit the tables behind him where they could examine monarch eggs, chrysalises, and caterpillars up close with a magnifying glass and learn more about them.
For the Grand Finale, Glenn led the participants outside to the Moorestown Friends School playground, where they released the monarch butterflies to begin their 2,000 mile journey South to Mexico.
By all accounts, the event was a huge success and an exciting and educational occasion for all.
