Forced labor can occur when someone is pressured to accept a job, misled about the work, or charged huge “fees” that trap them in debt.

If someone can’t say “no” to work or can’t leave, it isn’t a job. It’s exploitation.

Find out how it happens. Click the link in our comments.

At its core, human trafficking is a crime of exploitation.

‼️Pennsylvania has a human trafficking crisis — and far too many people don’t realize how close to home it truly is.‼️

As of early 2026, Pennsylvania ranks 9th in the nation for reported human trafficking cases.
Even more alarming:
▪️ Pennsylvania ranks 4th in the U.S. for active criminal human trafficking cases
▪️ Southeastern counties like Berks and Delaware continue to report some of the highest trafficking-related charges
▪️ Our state remains a major trafficking hub due to the intersection of major interstate highways, including the PA Turnpike

Human trafficking is not just happening in big cities. It’s happening in suburbs. Small towns. Truck stops. Hotels. Shopping centers. Right here in our communities.

This isn’t someone else’s problem. This is ours.
Awareness saves lives. Education protects our children. Speaking up matters.
The more we understand, the harder it becomes for traffickers to operate in silence.

So...
Something HAPPENED....
YESTERDAY.....
A real estate deal closed at the old Mission Thrift Store location at 211 West Main Street, Monongahela..
The building has been purchased by a newly formed, Monongahela-based non-profit corporation, known as.
the Monongahela Community Thrift Store, Inc..
The group has purchased the historic Towner-McCrory Building,.
the widest traditional glazed storefront building in our Downtown,.
to keep it open as a community-based thrift store,.
and to continue its focus on.
meeting the mission needs of nearby residents,.
plus continuing to provide a facility that draws visitors and generates "foot traffic" for the other nearby shops.
and to provide a place for local residents to donate clothing and other household items that might be sold here, things that are no longer needed at your home but that others might need at theirs, ...as well as all kinds of curiosities that the people who visit here will enjoy finding and treasuring as they have done at this facility in the past..
The purchase has been in the planning for about six months. More than a dozen local people have been involved in organizing the new group, including some very generous donors and lenders who made the purchase possible. It will take some time for the newly reorganized facility to be up and running, maybe another month or so, so please don't rush to drop donations off until an announcement is made that a new system is in place for processing donations of clothing, furniture, etc. .
An announcement will be made soon regarding how financial contributions can be made to the new non-profit by those who are able and so inclined. .
At this particular moment in time, clothing hangers and garment racks will be needed first..
We have a wonderful City!
