Child abuse is all too common in our society and even here in the Davidson and Davie County, North Carolina area, and it can have devastating long-term effects on those affected. At The Dragonfly House Children’s Advocacy Center, our mission is to reduce the impact of all forms of child abuse on children, their families, and society through immediate, coordinated, and child-focused services, education, and advocacy. Our center brings every process a child must go through underneath one safe, neutral roof. We provide forensic interviews, child abuse medical examinations, victim advocacy, mental health treatment, multi-disciplinary teamwork, coordinated case review services, and community outreach. Find out how you can help support our mission by contacting us today.

COMMUNITY ACTION COUNCIL
Davie & Davidson County: We Need YOU.

The Dragonfly House serves children and families across Davie and Davidson Counties—and we want our community represented in the work we do.

We are looking for community members from both counties to serve on our Community Action Council.

The Community Action Council is an opportunity to become more involved in The Dragonfly House mission and help strengthen the connection between our CAC and the communities we serve.

We need people who are willing to:

Be a voice for children and families in their community
Help raise awareness about The Dragonfly House and child abuse prevention
Build connections with local businesses, organizations, and community groups
Support community engagement and outreach
Help us identify ways The Dragonfly House can better connect with the communities we serve
Bring the perspective of Davie County or Davidson County to the table at our bi-monthly meetings.
We need representatives from BOTH counties.

If you live, work, worship, volunteer, or are otherwise connected to Davie or Davidson County, we want to hear from you.

You don't have to be a child abuse professional. You just have to care about the children in our community and be willing to get involved.

Help us make sure both Davie and Davidson County have a voice.

🔗 Apply to join the Community Action Council by visiting our website.

Together, we can build stronger communities and a stronger network around the children we serve.

Beyond grateful 💙

The Davie Community Foundation awarded a $14,340 Healthcare Grant to The Dragonfly House Children's Advocacy Center for their Meeting the Need: Trauma-Based Mental Health Services project.

This initiative will expand access to specialized mental health services for children and non-offending caregivers in Davie County who have experienced abuse, neglect, violence, or other trauma. Grant funding will support the addition of a part-time therapist, helping reduce wait times and provide more children with timely, consistent, trauma-informed care in a safe and supportive environment.

The project will also strengthen collaboration among local professionals, including law enforcement, child protective services, medical providers, and victim advocates, to better support children and families throughout the healing process.

By expanding access to these critical services close to home, The Dragonfly House is helping vulnerable children and families build a path toward healing, resilience, and brighter futures.

💜 DONOR SPOTLIGHT: Davie Community Foundation 💜

We are proud to spotlight the Davie Community Foundation for its investment in the children and families we serve at The Dragonfly House and throughout Davie County!

Through funding from the Davie County Hospital Foundation Fund, we are able to expand access to trauma-focused mental health services in Davie County by adding a part-time therapist. This support helps us work toward ensuring that more children and nonoffending caregivers can access the care they need to heal, regardless of their ability to pay.

We are incredibly grateful for community partners who recognize the importance of investing in children's healing and well-being. Thank you for helping us make a lasting difference!

Last week, our Executive Director, (Melissa Mishoe) and Forensic Interview and Communications Specialist (Emily Lamb); and two supervisors from Davidson County DSS attended the Reflections Symposium, presented by the Children’s Advocacy Centers of North Carolina, in beautiful Lake Junaluska.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn alongside our MDT partners, reflect on the work we share, and bring new ideas and perspectives back to our community. Strong partnerships make stronger teams—and ultimately create better outcomes for children and families.

Thank you, CACNC, for a meaningful and inspiring symposium!

🌟 Raising Resilient Kids: Growing Independence 💙

One of the greatest gifts we can give children is the confidence to try, learn, and grow.

As children get older, they need opportunities to practice independence in safe and age-appropriate ways.

Caregivers can encourage independence by:
✨ Giving children appropriate responsibilities
✨ Allowing them to make choices and learn from mistakes
✨ Helping them solve problems instead of immediately solving everything for them
✨ Reminding them that support is always available when they need it

Growing up is a process. Children thrive when they know they are capable — and when they know they are never alone. 💙
