Hands on STEM workshops for middle schoolers

Join the National Federation of the Blind Mobile Chapter and the City of Mobile Community Affairs Department for a free event designed to connect low-vision individuals or the visually impaired, their families, and community members with valuable services and support resources.

In addition to visiting vendor exhibits, guests are invited to participate in a special Lunch & Learn Presentation, sponsored by Alabama Power. This event provides a welcoming environment to learn about available services, ask questions, build connections, and discover resources that can help individuals thrive in their daily lives.

Admission is free, but registration is required. Lunch will be provided.

We had the best Parent Café at Pearl Haskew last week! 💙 Our topic was RESPECT, something every family works on. We held a parent workshop alongside a very RESPECTFUL group of star students! 🌟

As parents, we want our children to show respect, but we must remember that they learn by watching us. The way we speak, listen, and respond to our children sets the example for how they treat others.

We can teach respect by listening without interrupting, correcting calmly, and apologizing when we make a mistake. Showing children respect doesn’t mean giving up boundaries. It means holding those boundaries with kindness.

Teaching respect starts with showing respect. Let’s lead by example! 💙

We loved seeing this story about Alvis Workforce Development Center's "Lighting the FIRE in Fatherhood" event, which brought together 75 dads and their families for a day mixing parenting and co-parenting workshops with job training, CDL pathways, and financial literacy. It's a great reminder of what we believe here at The Family Center: when fathers get real support — both as parents and as providers — whole families thrive. Our own Fatherhood Initiative offers that same blend of parent education and workforce development right here in Mobile, so if you know a dad who could use it, send him our way!
