Unfortunately, we've had to cancel Wade in Wednesday this week due to high and fast water 🌊

Here are our top 5 reasons not to fish during high water:
1️⃣ Dangerous Currents
Strong currents can easily sweep an angler off their feet. Pair that with slick rocks and it's a recipe for a bad day.

🍗Fun fact: A cubic foot weighs about 64lbs. A butterball turkey is about a cubic foot in size. So a 100cfs stream is like having 100 butterball turkeys that weigh 64lbs each flying at you, or filling your waders if you have a fall.

2️⃣ Hidden Obstacles
Fast-moving water often carries logs, branches, and even pieces of fencing, which can pose a significant danger if you're in the water.

3️⃣ Poor Visibility/Clarity
High water usually means muddy or silty conditions due to increased sediment runoff, making it hard for fish to see your flies, or any food for that matter!

4️⃣ Lowered Water Oxygen Levels
A surge of water can carry organic debris, fertilizers, and pollutants that severely deplete dissolved oxygen levels, making it more difficult for fish.

5️⃣ Habitat Disruption
The influx of water and sediment can move structures used as fish shelter, smother aquatic habitats, block sunlight needed by aquatic plants, and lead to a depletion of oxygen.

💡Remember! Most creeks are closed until the third Saturday in May. If you're itching to fish, use this time to tie flies, map out your next fishing trip, and make sure your gear is in order.

Let's get some Wade in Wednesday days in before runoff!

🗓️Wednesday, March 25th at 5:30PM. Location will be sent out once you register for the event.

We limit the number or participants to make sure we're not overcrowding an area. These events are for all levels of experience but you are expected to bring your own gear (waders, boots, rod/reel, flies, etc).

🎣WIW's are a great way to meet new angling friends, explore new areas, and hone in your fly fishing skills.

Ever wonder what the fish are eating? 🪱🐜🦗

How in the heck do we identify the bugs and match our fly pattern?! Join us for an evening of bug IDing on Rock Creek with resident expert, Patti!

July 17th, at 5:30pm at Rock Creek Fisherman's Mercantile.

We will do a little shopping, group up, and then car pool together to the creek around 6pm.

Wear clothing that can get wet, water, sunscreen, and if you have a D net for catching aquatic bugs, bring that too!
