Hello Gorgeous! Blog: Self Care
A year or so ago, on my podcast, I interviewed Justin Schenk, who is the host of Growth Now Movement. Justin sits down with top performers, celebrities and entrepreneurs and asks them questions about their success and asks them to share how they arrived at the point where they are.
Justin shared that he asks each top performer what their definition of success is and what three things that they do each day to ensure that they can achieve that success.
In most of the individuals that he has interviewed, the number one thing that they do everyday is some form of self care.
I started to think about the things that I do for self care. I feel that woman are the worst at practicing self care. For the most part women are selfless.
When we started Hello Gorgeous! The entire premise for the Hello Gorgeous! Makeover was that it had to be a surprise. The woman receiving the makeover couldn’t know about what was about to happen for her. What we found was if we shared with the women that was battling cancer that we were going to take her for a day of beauty, she would deflect it and want to gift it to someone else.
As a rule, and in my experience, women aren’t good as self care. And that is what we need more than anything is to take care of ourselves. You can not give what you don’t have, you can fill anyone else up if your cup is empty.
I make it a point to take time to get a facial once a month. It's amazing what just a little TLC can do.
When we give a woman with cancer a makeover, it comes at the most perfect time, a time when she doesn’t feel deserving. And yet that is what she needs the most, just a few hours away from cancer.
Here are 3 ways that you can practice self-care;
Nourish your mind and body: This can include getting enough sleep (7-9 hours for adults), eating healthy meals, and staying hydrated. It can also involve getting some form of exercise that you enjoy, whether it's a brisk walk, a dance class, or a yoga session.
De-stress and relax: Make time for activities that help you unwind and de-clutter your mind. This could be anything from taking a warm bath to reading a book to spending time in nature. Mindfulness practices like meditation or deep breathing can also be helpful.
Do something you enjoy: Make time for hobbies and activities that bring you joy and a sense of fulfillment. This could be anything from spending time with loved ones to learning a new skill to pursuing a creative outlet.
Remember, self-care is all about taking care of yourself in a way that works for you. There's no right or wrong way to do it, so experiment and find what makes you feel your best.
