Center for Veterans Issues For some veterans, the path to independence is a long and very difficult journey.

CVI is Wisconsin’s largest 501(c)(3) serving Veterans, providing housing, employment, and supportive services that help Veterans achieve stability and independence. Whether that veteran served in Vietnam or Desert Storm, Korea or the Global War on Terror, often times numerous factors must be addressed before a veteran can become an active member of the society they once preserved. The Center for Veterans Issues, a 501(c)(3) organization, was founded in 1989 to provide management and technical assistance to agencies serving minority Veterans as well as direct service provision for homeless veterans through housing and wraparound supportive services. Although best known for serving homeless Veterans recovering from addiction, disabilities and other barriers to employment, the mission has always been to support the concerns of all Veterans and their families as well as the community as a whole.

Did you know CVI runs the only women's Veterans shelter of its kind in Milwaukee County? Boudicca House was established in 2002, and provides female Veterans with greater safety, privacy, and specialized support.

The name Boudicca is feminine and of ancient Celtic origin. It is derived from the Brythonic word boud, meaning “victory.” Boudicca was a first-century queen of the Iceni who united and led the Britons in a revolt against Roman rule. Although her forces were ultimately defeated, she is remembered as a powerful symbol of courage, leadership, resistance, and determination.

Although Boudicca House is an essential part of CVI’s Veterans programming, operating it creates a significant funding challenge. Whether the house serves one woman Veteran or operates at its full adult-bed capacity, CVI is required to maintain 24/7/365 staffing, provide three meals each day, seven days a week, programing, and transportation to medical and other critical appointments. Women with children can also utilize Boudicca House’s services.

CVI/Boudicca House is always in need of “hygiene kits” that are specifically tailored to females. Many of our residents are fleeing domestic violence, so they arrive on our doorstep with little or nothing. CVI tries to meet their needs as best we can but often run short. Monetary donations to CVI and specifically earmarked for Boudicca House are always welcome too.

Help CVI support this vital service to female Veterans!

This donation will help Boudicca House, our transitional housing for female Veterans. We'll be able to :Provide additional support where grants do not…

Sponsor Spotlight: KOHLER

We’re honored to recognize Kohler as a National Defense Sponsor of the 2026 CVI Gala!

Kohler has been a valued partner to CVI for years and was recognized with CVI's 2023 Community Impact Award for its generous support of the Vets Place Central renovation and expansion. Their contribution brought high-quality Kohler fixtures to the private bathrooms in all 81 Veteran rooms and throughout the building, helping ensure these essential spaces are built for lasting use and reliability.

That investment matters. These thoughtfully designed spaces help create a dignified, welcoming environment where Veterans can focus on rebuilding their lives and moving toward greater independence.

We’re proud to celebrate Kohler’s enduring commitment to Veterans ★ from helping strengthen Vets Place Central to standing with us as a National Defense Sponsor of the 2026 CVI Gala. Their continued partnership helps move our mission forward in lasting and meaningful ways.
