The Tripoli Mosque, an architectural replica of India's Taj Mahal, is home to the Tripoli Shrine Center and the headquarters of all Shriner activities in Milwaukee and Wisconsin. Shrine Temples throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Republic of Panama. Founded in New York City in 1872, the organization is composed solely of Master Masons. The Shrine of North America is an international fraternity of approximately 500,000 members throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada and Panama. Our official philanthropy is Shriners Hospitals for Children, a network of 22 hospitals that provide expert, no-cost orthopedic and burn care to children under 18. The Shrine is known for its colorful parades, circuses and clowns. But there is also a serious side to this international fraternity of approximately 525,000 men belonging to 191 Shrine Temples, or chapters, throughout North America. For 75 years, the Shrine has operated a network of specialized hospitals that treat children with orthopedic problems, burns and spinal cord injuries, up to their 18th birthday, at no cost to the family.
