Did you know Milwaukee's oldest hospital started as a 20-bed facility founded by Lutheran pastors in 1863?

Recently, members of our Legacy Circle gathered at historic Grace Downtown for an evening tracing Milwaukee's Lutheran heritage — from the earliest immigrants who built hospitals, orphanages, and schools, to today's Legacy Circle members carrying that same calling forward through their own charitable legacies.

As one presenter put it, there's a "single golden thread" connecting that history to the present: the call to be the hands and feet of Christ in our city.

It was amazing to catch up with friends from We Raise Foundation and other Lutheran foundations in Omaha! It reminded us that we can do so much more together than we could ever accomplish alone!

Three days of learning, connecting, and great conversation! 😊

Our President, Paul Miles, and Vice President of Development, Shannon Durio, have been in Omaha this week for the Lutheran Grantmakers and Donors Conference—a wonderful gathering of organizations from across the country coming together to learn from one another, share ideas, and strengthen relationships.

We’re especially grateful for the opportunity to connect with Charlotte John-Gómez of the Siebert Lutheran Foundation and Matt Miller of the Lutheran Foundation of St. Louis. We’ve had the joy of partnering with both organizations on grants that are helping people and communities thrive, and it’s always a pleasure to learn and collaborate with fellow grantmakers.

A special thank you to the Rupert Dunklau Foundation for planning and hosting such a wonderful conference! The conference offered new ideas, renewed relationships, and plenty of reasons to be grateful for this community of people working together to make a difference.

Program Director Michelle Burmeister recently visited Camp Phillip in Wautoma! Camp Phillip provides relaxation in creation and renewal in Christ to youth, adults, families, churches, and schools throughout the year.

Such important work that we are honored to support!!

For more than two decades, Bread of Healing Clinic has provided free and low-cost health care to Milwaukee residents who often have nowhere else to turn.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services stated in late July that federal Medicaid work requirements could put health insurance coverage at risk for 200,000 Wisconsin adults who will be subject to the new requirements.

Because coming changes may soon leave more people unable to afford care, the clinic is preparing for a surge in patients and asking the community for support.

We're so glad to see our partner Bread of Healing Clinic featured in a recent CBS 58 story on rising healthcare costs and growing demand at free clinics across Milwaukee. As demand grows, Bread of Healing is expanding its hours and hopes to add a new south side location at Unity Lutheran Church.

So grateful for the compassionate, steady care Bread of Healing Clinic provides for our community.

We're so glad to see our longtime partner Serenity Inns Inc featured in a recent Wisconsin Public Radio story on the decline in overdose deaths across the state.

The piece highlights how Serenity Inns' residential treatment program is helping men in Milwaukee build lasting recovery. One graduate now works there as a peer support specialist, walking alongside new residents just starting their own journey. Serenity Inns hopes to open a second residential center in the years ahead to help meet growing need for services.

We're grateful to walk alongside Serenity Inns as they continue to expand this life-changing work.
