🚨 A potential major change could be coming for F-1 students in the United States.

For decades, most international students have been admitted under “Duration of Status (D/S),” allowing them to remain in the U.S. as long as they maintain their F-1 status and continue their studies.

Now, DHS is moving closer to a proposal that could replace D/S with a fixed admission period, potentially changing how some students manage their immigration status in the future.

Important: The proposal has NOT been implemented, and current F-1 students remain under the existing D/S system.

Career growth should never come at the cost of immigration stability.
Changing jobs on H-1B is not just about accepting a better offer; it is about sequencing every step correctly.

The role, employer, LCA, petition, receipt notice, start date, resignation timing, and case follow-up all matter. One rushed decision can create gaps that are much harder to fix later.
The biggest lesson: don’t treat immigration compliance as paperwork after the offer. Treat it as part of the offer.
Before you sign, resign, or start, make sure the process protects both your career and your status.
