The Siliguri Greater Lions Eye Hospital in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, is undergoing a transformation. An existing four-storey facility spread over 2.18 acres in Kartoa is being expanded: two additional floors, seven new operating theatres, and a total footprint of 140,000 square feet designed for high-volume, high-quality care.
When construction is complete, the hospital's annual free surgery capacity will increase from 15,000 to 40,000. Free beds will triple from 100 to 300. Nine operating theatres will run procedures across cataract, cornea, glaucoma, retina, and paediatric ophthalmology.
The population it will serve: over 20 million people in one of India's most under-served regions.
This is what infrastructure actually looks like: not a camp, not a temporary clinic, but a permanent institution built to outlast every individual donor's gift and keep treating patients for decades.
Your $50 contributes to this. To the building. To the beds. To the 40,000 people a year who will receive free surgery inside it.
