On this Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion to protecting the freedoms we cherish can never be fully repaid, but they will never be forgotten. As we gather with family and friends, may we also take a moment to reflect on the profound cost of liberty and express gratitude to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. We remember them not only for how they died, but for how they lived—with honor, duty, and love for something greater than themselves.

On Saturday, approximately 20 members of the Millbury Fire Department participated in an all-day training hosted by tMassachusetts Department of Fire Servicesices in Stow, Massachusetts. The intensive training focused on fire attack techniques, hose advancement, ventilation, and other critical firefighting skills designed to strengthen operational readiness and sharpen hands-on abilities.

The day began with classroom instruction, where firefighters reviewed tactics, safety procedures, and best practices before transitioning to live-fire training in the burn tower. These realistic scenarios provided members with valuable experience in a controlled environment, reinforcing teamwork, communication, and effective fireground operations.

Training opportunities like these are essential to maintaining a high level of preparedness and ensuring Millbury firefighters are equipped with the skills needed to serve and protect the community safely and effectively.

Tonight at the Selectman’s meeting, three members of the Fire Department were officially pinned as graduates of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s Call/Volunteer Recruit Training Program.

Over the course of approximately 240 hours, these individuals attended training three days a week — two weekdays and one weekend day — completing extensive classroom instruction and hands-on technical skills training required for modern-day firefighting.

Please join us in welcoming Chris McCarter, Andrew Carnes, and Jason Jumper to the department. Congratulations on this outstanding accomplishment and your dedication to serving the community. Well deserved!
