Midway University Toastmasters Club Improve your communication and leadership skills. Meeting Mondays, 6-7:15 pm. Come and see what we are all about!

Chartered in 2011, Midway Toastmasters has a mixed group of veteran speakers, long-standing members and new Toastmaster Members. It's our goal to help each member develop his or her own speaking voice and leadership abilities. Although we are a group that is serious about fine-tuning our communication and leadership abilities, our meetings are never lacking a fun experience. A typical Midway Toast

masters meeting includes a table topics session, speakers, evaluations of the speakers, and even a joke or word of the day. Meeting Information:

This week at Midway:
Valerie is overjoyed that she is seeing goldfish in her goldfish pond again after they were missing in action. The sound of children laughing on the playground makes Genia happy. Jennifer told us that people in the 1950s, despite the idealized TV shows from that era, faced the same issues we do today. Nick and Steve gave us tips on impromptu speaking and on preparing/practicing a speech, respectively. And Regan loves Disney, Read all about it in this week's newsletter.

This week we had our backwards meeting. We ran the WHOLE meeting in reverse. Speech evaluations were given before the speeches. That meant the speakers had to insert items from their evaluations into their speeches. The Ah Counter and Grammarian also gave their reports before everybody spoke and suggested several faux pas and phrases for people who spoke during the meeting. It was a creative, fun meeting.

On a serious note: 4 members earned educational awards in May, bringing the club total of awards to 56, which leads District 40. This meeting underlines the fact that we like to have fun, but we are serious about self-improvement.

News Alert: We are waiving club dues for anyone who joins the club before June 30 as a new or reinstated member. This is a good time to give Toastmasters a try and to save money.

JUST TO CLARIFY: Club dues through March 2027 are $20 ($2 a month). International dues for that time period are $100 ($10 a month) plus a one-time fee of $25 for people new to Toastmasters.

We didn't have a meeting on Monday because of Memorial Day, but we did have a bonus meeting last Saturday. Cynthia talked about family game night when she was growing up and how special that was. Charlie told the rest of the story about his friend who left his passport at home when he flew to the Bahamas. And Arlynn shared her vision for a new club YouTube channel that will hopefully attract more people to our meetings.

A game of Bingo was sprinkled throughout the agenda during this week's Midway Toastmasters "Games People Play" meeting. Charlie, Deb, Megan, and Emily all shouted "Bingo!" and won prizes.

In our speeches:
--Nick offered tips on goal-setting.
--Charlie shared a couple of funny anecdotes off the top of his head.
--Valerie reminisced about a bullfrog that took up residence in her backyard for a while.
