Midway University Toastmasters Club Improve your communication and leadership skills. Meeting Mondays, 6-7:15 pm. Come and see what we are all about!

Chartered in 2011, Midway Toastmasters has a mixed group of veteran speakers, long-standing members and new Toastmaster Members. It's our goal to help each member develop his or her own speaking voice and leadership abilities. Although we are a group that is serious about fine-tuning our communication and leadership abilities, our meetings are never lacking a fun experience. A typical Midway Toastmasters meeting includes a table topics session, speakers, evaluations of the speakers, and even a joke or word of the day. Meeting Information:

This past week was jam-packed with fun. Last Saturday, we had our Game Day with 13 people attending, including our district director, division director, and past division director. At our regular meeting, Beth shared lessons from her dog about slowing down. Megan told us how her conference went in Denver and Matthew taught us about a qualitative research method called phenomenology. In Table Topics, Cynthia claimed she could peddle hot cocoa in the tropics, while Yan assured us that she could sell saunas near the equator in Asia. This week we enjoyed time "At the Movies," which was our meeting theme. We had popcorn, candy, and drinks. Emily revealed that Gollum in the "Lord of the Rings" movies terrified her when she was growing up. Rick admitted that he wanted to wear the John Travolta white outfit (from "Saturday Night Fever") to his high school prom, but he was dissuaded by his date. Charlie recalled that memorable line from "When Harry Met Sally" when the lady in the restaurant ordered whatever Sally was having. We had so much fun at this meeting.

On Saturday we're having a game day, which is strictly a social event -- no speeches or anything like that, just fun and games, plus lunch. Join us if you can (18 and over only, please). Time is 12-3 p.m.

Midway Toastmasters had a great meeting on Monday. Arlynn took us on the first leg of a tour on the new club website interface. (The second leg is this coming Monday.) Steve talked about the Toastmasters educational program and Mary practiced for a conference where she'll be presenting in October. Completing educational awards in August were Teresa, Nick, Steve and Cynthia.

Cynthia and Steve also attended the district recognition ceremony last weekend in Cincinnati and Midway was mentioned as one of only 17 clubs in the district to be Smedley Distinguished, the highest honor any club can receive.

We didn't have a meeting on Labor Day Monday, but our members were still out and about. Charlie and Ben did presentations at the Toyota Young Professionals Employee Resource Group leadership team last Tuesday. Cynthia and Steve attended the Harpeth View Toastmasters meeting on Saturday in Nashville. While there, they met up Dorey, another Midway member who lives in the Nashville area. All three of them are members of Harpeth View too.

Note: If you visit our website, be aware that the look-and-feel will be changing soon. We will be upgrading from FreeToastHost 3 to version 4. One of the biggest advantages is that the website will display better on mobile devices.
