🧥❄️ WHY WE COLLECT WHAT WE COLLECT — AND WHY IT MATTERS THIS WINTER 🧤🥾

People ask us all the time — "What do you need most?"

The answer is always the same: The Stay Alive Five.

👢 Boots
🧤 Gloves
🧥 Coats
🛌 Sleeping Bags

These aren't just items. They are the difference between surviving a winter night outdoors and not. When temperatures drop below freezing, frostbite sets in within minutes. Hypothermia can be fatal in hours. These five items are the frontline defense against both — and they are the reason we have narrowed our collections to focus specifically on them.

We don't collect everything — we collect what saves lives.

And the numbers prove just how critical the need truly is. In FY2025 alone, our outreach teams distributed:

🧢 6,761 Hats
🧤 6,428 Gloves
🧥 2,501 Coats
👢 1,094 Boots
🛌 837 Sleeping Bags

Those are not just statistics. Every single number is a person. A Veteran. A neighbor. A human being who needed exactly that item on exactly that night to make it through.

And the need doesn't stop — it grows every winter.

Our Collection Season starts this week. As you swap out your summer clothes and pull out your fall and winter gear, we are asking you to look with fresh eyes at what you have. That coat that no longer fits. Those boots sitting in the back of your closet. That extra sleeping bag from a camping trip you haven't taken in years.

Someone needs it more than your closet does.
