EAA Chapter 5 is pleased to announce that Andrew Johnson has been selected as our 2026/27 Ray Aviation Scholar. Andrew is a homeschooled senior, a member of the Cleveland Soaring Society, and works in the maintenance shop at Geauga County Airport. He'll be working with Ric Blamer to pursue his Private Pilot Certificate. Please join us in congratulating Andrew and supporting him on his journey toward becoming a certificated pilot.

Several members flew to Freeman-Swank Farms (0OH5) for overnight camping this weekend. The Goodyear blimp greeted us on arrival. The weather was surprisingly good with the exception of a rain cell with accompanying high winds that quickly blew through the camp site. Otherwise, a great day in the area followed by a cool summer night. We should definitely plan another overnight trip to this local fly in destination.

A huge congrats to Luke Shipman on passing his private pilot check ride this past Friday!

Luke started his training less than a year ago and battled through a tough Ohio winter and a windy spring to log the experience needed to earn his certificate — a real testament to his dedication and persistence.

Luke is headed off to college this month, where he'll continue training toward his goal of becoming a professional pilot. We're proud of what you've accomplished so far, Luke, and can't wait to see where your aviation career takes you!

Blue skies and tailwinds, Luke!

Message from Jeff Stands of the Wright Brothers Museum:

Greetings from Wright Brothers' land!

Just wanted to pass on that EAA Chapter 5's wings - still intact in our White Bird 1911 Flyer will not only be on display all week at Airventure, they will also fly during the airshow on both Tuesday and Thursday. We will be on display inside a large tent just south of the Vintage Barn along with some actual early years airplanes from EAA's museum.

We are slated to do a single runway hop pass down the active during both the Homebuilts on Tuesday around 1415 as well as the Vintage session on Thursday at 1415ish also.

Hope to see everybody from EAA Chapter 5 - stop by and take a look at our airplane!

I will be giving the build and test briefing at Vintage on Wednesday and Rich Stepler will be giving they history of the Wright airplanes on Friday in Vintage.

Take care, fly smart!

Jeff Stands

The Chapter 5 pancake breakfast flag has been planted Lake County Executive airport (KLNN). Join us there this Saturday for our first pancake breakfast of the season.

Food will be served starting at 7:30am and wrap up at noon. We will be flying Young Eagles (weather permitting).

We can always use additional help:
- Set and food prep begins at 5:30am
- Let Ric Blamer know if you can fly Young Eagles
- Let Sherry know if you can help with Youth Stations
- Tear down and pack up will start at noon

Or, just come to enjoy some good food and great company. Hope to see you there!
