On Wednesday, February 25th, the Middleboro School Committee will hold a public hearing regarding the reconfiguration of the elementary complex.

After hearing the lack of data-driven and student-focused reasons for this reconfiguration, our community of educators and parents alike have many questions yet to be answered.

The MEA is encouraging members to attend this public hearing to share your thoughts and opinions, ask questions, and hopefully glean more information on the why and the how of this gargantuan potential upheaval.

Large decisions that directly and overtly impact every grade 1-5 student, their families, and all 1-5 educators need to be thoughtfully planned out far in advance, with careful consideration to all of the moving pieces and the consequences thereof. This foresight has not happened, to the public's knowledge, and a rushed decision without answers and deep planning can spell disaster, even if the reasons for reconfiguration are ultimately positive and sound.

Show up, make your voice heard, and help support the students and educators of Middleboro!

The MEA would like to give a huge THANK YOU to Dave's Diner for providing our ESP negotiation team with delicious turkey dinners (including gluten free meals) to get us through a long Tuesday night of back-to-back meetings! This past weekend four of our MEA members attended the Winter Union Skills Conference in Boston to connect with other educators, stay up to date on best practices, learn about finance and budget as it relates to negotiations, better understand how the current political moment shapes us as educators and union members, and how our positive impact on our students and communities can be multiplied.

We are excited to share our new learning with all of our members to continue to strengthen our MEA together! 💙

For those not as acronym savvy, Middleboro is representing as part of Massachusetts at the National Education Association Representative Assembly in Portland, OR. This massive gathering of educators nationwide is one of the largest democratic deliberative bodies in the world!

We had an amazing crew in blue show up for our negotiations meeting this past Monday! MEA members, we would love to see all of you as silent representatives on Monday 3/24 for our next meeting.

As one member stated this week, "This was the first negotiations meeting I have attended. The process has always seemed a bit intimidating, but it wasn't scary like I imagined it to be!"
