: Congratulations to Theaster Gates on being named to the 2026 TIME100 Art List, recognizing 100 of the most influential people shaping the future of art! 🎉

Theaster Gates — Past Locust Projects Exhibiting Artist ‘12

In 2012, Locust Projects presented Soul Manufacturing Corporation, Gates’ first gallery exhibition of his ongoing multidisciplinary project on the heels of his showing at dOCUMENTA 13. Transforming Locust’s Main Gallery into a working factory, the installation brought together a working kiln, “skilled makers,” performances, programming, and works made from salvaged materials to explore the intersections of aesthetics, labor, race, and systems of production.

Internationally renowned for his interdisciplinary blend of social practice, performance, installation, sculpture, and urban intervention, Gates continues to challenge how art can transform spaces, institutions, communities, and perceptions.

We’re honored to have presented Theaster’s work and proud to celebrate him and his continued influence and impact. Warmest congratulations Theaster! 👏✨

🎤✨ THIS THURSDAY: ARTIST TALKS WITH Bethany Collins 

Join us this TOMORROW Thursday, October 8, for an evening with Chicago-based multidisciplinary artist Bethany Collins, a 2018 Locust Projects exhibiting artist whose practice examines the relationship between race and language.

As part of Collins’ 2018 exhibition The Litany, a day-long durational performance took place on December 6, featuring 100 versions of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” sung by volunteers and small choirs throughout the day, photos above.

Now, Collins returns to Locust Projects for our final Artist Talk of 2026, sharing insights into the evolution of her work and career since her 2018 exhibition.

Join Locust Projects for A Buen Puerto, an evening of art and celebration honoring Jorge M. and Darlene Pérez and celebrating Edison Peñafiel. 

 🌊 Be the first to experience the Miami premiere of Edison Peñafiel’s MARE MAGNVM, the first chapter of Tides and Passages, presented by Locust Projects during Miami Art Week. The evening will unfold inside Peñafiel’s immersive work, bringing guests into a world shaped by tides, passage, and a safe harbor.

🍷 + 🍴 + ✨ A Buen Puerto will welcome guests for a unique evening where art, food, performance, and sound come together in a transformative experience. Guests will enjoy a creative dining experience by Le Basque, and cocktails by CHAWAR, creating a night of exceptional food, drinks, and celebration for an intimate gathering of Locust Projects supporters.

RSVP NOW: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8 🎤✨ ARTIST TALKS: BETHANY COLLINS ✨🎤

Bethany Collins (Locust Projects 2018 exhibiting artist) is a multidisciplinary artist whose conceptual practice examines the relationship between race and language. Through erasure, obscuring, excerpting, and rewriting texts, Collins explores issues of race, power, and histories of violence. Drawing from sources ranging from 19th-century musical scores to U.S. Department of Justice reports, her work examines how language can both forge connections and foster violence.

🍽️ Designed in conjunction with the artist, this unique dining experience offers an insider’s look at Mar’s work, his current and upcoming solo museum exhibitions, and the creative world behind his practice, all set within a lush, tropically landscaped setting. Two new museum monographs will also be available for purchase.

✨ Making Waves at Splash! Party 2026! 🌊🌴

Wednesday night at The Vagabond Hotel, we celebrated 13 Miami artists awarded WaveMaker incubator grants to bring bold, experimental new projects to life across Miami in 2026–27.

Our Wednesdays with + WaveMakers gathering brought together this year’s grantees with WaveMaker alumni, exhibiting artists, local curators, board members, and INCUBATOR donors—a cross-section of the creative community that makes Miami, Miami.

A night of artists, ideas, connections, and poolside celebration at one of MiMo’s most iconic landmarks. ✨

Ryan Inouye is Kathe and Jim Patrinos Co-Curator of the 59th Carnegie International: If the word we (2026–27) and Curator, International Art at Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh. He is also a member of the curatorial team of the upcoming 37th Bienal de São Paulo (2027).
