We’re incredibly proud of MVF’s Kitten Adoption Prep Program and the dedicated fosters who make it possible. 🐾💙
Our fosters care for some of the most vulnerable kittens, including neonates who require around-the-clock attention. One of our neonatal fosters takes on some of the toughest cases and has an incredible 90% success rate.
Through grant funding, we’re also able to support a network of fosters with vital medications and resources to give these kittens their best chance to thrive.
This year, more than 4,000 kittens are expected to be transported to rescue partners up North, while we’re on track to help another 400 kittens find loving, indoor-only homes locally.
We may not be changing the whole world—but for those 4,400 kittens, we’re helping change theirs. ❤️🐱

Fragile From the Start: Understanding Neonatal Kitten Mortality
We analyzed intake and outcome data for more than 460,000 animals in 232 shelters and found strikingly high neonatal kitten mortality, particularly in kittens under 6 weeks of age. Of special concern is the large proportion of kittens that died in care without the benefit of humane euthanasia.
We're seeking feedback from shelters and kitten-rearing programs on how they are tracking their kitten data, their most successful innovations, their biggest setbacks, whether they have access to vet care and foster support around the clock, and their other experiences.
