LeNard Rutledge is an accomplished jazz vocalist and proud Miami Central Senior High School alumnus, Class of 1984, whose rich baritone voice and commanding stage presence have earned him recognition as one of South Floridaβs premier jazz performers.
Frequently compared to the legendary Lou Rawls, Rutledge masterfully blends the sophistication of jazz with the soulful influences of his gospel roots, creating a distinctive sound that has captivated audiences throughout his career.
Rutledgeβs musical journey began at Miami Central, where he was a percussionist in both the marching and concert bands. In 1997, he launched his professional vocal career as the featured vocalist for the renowned Melton Mustafa Orchestra, a role he proudly held for seven years. His growing reputation also led to regular performances at Miami Beachβs iconic Van D**e CafΓ©, under the direction of acclaimed pianist Don Wilner.
Throughout his distinguished career, Rutledge has shared the stage with internationally acclaimed artists including Wycliffe Gordon, Kenny Drew Jr., Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kirk Whalum, Marion Meadows, and the late George Duke.
From his beginnings as a young musician at Miami Central to becoming a respected voice in South Floridaβs jazz community, LeNard Rutledge represents the talent, excellence, and lasting legacy of the Rocket tradition.
