This morning, Heidi Hewes Woman’s Cancer Association was proud to be represented by Joe Schwartz & Linda Schwartz at the Village of Miami Shores Memorial Day ceremony at Memorial Park. 🇺🇸

The event brought the community together to honor and remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. From veterans and local leaders to neighbors and families, it was a reminder that Miami Shores has always been rooted in community, connection, and showing up for one another.

That spirit is exactly what Heidi Hewes is about. Supporting our community, giving back, and standing together through service and purpose. ❤️ Miami Shores Village Official Government

Today’s Grant Awards Luncheon at the Coconut Grove Woman’s Club was a reminder that local community impact can ripple far beyond one room, one lunch, or one moment.

Through the Woman’s Cancer Association, six doctors and researchers from Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami received grants to help fund innovative cancer research across multiple specialties. These grants are designed to give researchers the ability to explore new ideas, push studies forward, and accelerate discoveries that may otherwise struggle to find early funding.

What makes this even more powerful is how these grants happen. They are funded through decades of volunteerism, donations, fundraising events, community support, and proceeds from the Bargain Box thrift store. Real people helping fuel real research that directly impacts patients and families facing cancer.

Since 1959, the WCA has raised millions of dollars in support of cancer research, patient care, and education. Today was another chapter in that story.

Thank you Cristina Imburgia Butler & Joe Schwartz for sharing photos!!

New chapter year, new officers, vibrant attendance, and a whole lot of momentum heading into the next season. This was our last meeting until September, and it felt like the perfect way to close out the year.

One of the things that makes this organization special is that our monthly meetings rotate between members’ homes, making this a true community organization built on real conversations, genuine connections, and people who truly care about showing up for each other.

Green Day through our eyes 💚

Members showing up, connecting, sharing stories, and turning simple finds from the Bargain Box into something meaningful. Every piece had a story, every moment had purpose.

Grateful for the people behind it all and the community that keeps showing up.

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.

At the Heidi Hewes Chapter of the Woman’s Cancer Association, this is exactly why we do what we do.

Research. Education. Prevention. Access.

Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers when detected early. Screening is not glamorous, but it is powerful. It saves lives.

Because of the funds raised by this community, real research is happening. Real education is reaching people. Real impact is being made.

This month we wear blue. We talk about it. We remind each other that prevention is strength.

Screen. Strong. 💙

🩷💚 Record Year. Sold Out. $61,912.95 Raised.

We are beyond grateful to share that the 33rd Annual Holiday Home Tour raised a net total of $61,912.95 for cancer research and patient care. A record year and a sold-out tour.

This would not have been possible without our incredible homeowners who opened their doors, our dedicated volunteers who gave countless hours, our generous sponsors, and every guest who purchased a ticket and showed up in support of the cause.

Because of you, research physicians will apply for new grants in the coming months to continue groundbreaking work. Because of you, patients who need assistance getting to treatment will receive support.

One community. One shared purpose. Real impact.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping us continue the fight. 💚🩷

A peek inside our monthly Heidi Hewes WCA meetings.

Each month we gather in a member’s home, rotate hosting, and dig into the work. We review monthly responsibilities, plan for the year ahead, and make sure every detail is covered, from events to volunteering to ongoing support for the Bargain Box and Sylvester Cancer Center.

And then there’s one of our favorite traditions. Birthday dollars. We pass an envelope, collect a few bills, and those funds go straight to the Silver Angel Fund. That money becomes a stipend for patients undergoing cancer treatment who need help covering everyday costs when things are already hard enough.

It’s not flashy. It’s personal. And it’s exactly why these rooms matter.
