This moment is especially meaningful to SALAD because each of these candidates participated in our SALAD Judicial Forum 2026, demonstrating a willingness to engage directly with the community and participate in the civic-education process.

Judicial elections matter. Yet, because judicial candidates must appropriately observe important ethical limitations when campaigning, voters do not always have the same opportunities to learn about them as they do candidates for other elected offices. That makes nonpartisan civic forums especially valuable.

Through the SALAD Judicial Forum 2026, our community had an opportunity to hear directly from judicial candidates, learn more about their qualifications and experience, and become better informed before casting their ballots.

We thank every candidate who participated in the forum and helped SALAD advance one of our fundamental missions: empowering voters through civic education and informed participation.

Congratulations to Judge-Elect Alvarez, Judge-Elect Diaz, Judge-Elect Gordon, and Judge Eig on earning the confidence of Miami-Dade County voters. A sincere thank you to Bilingual Los Tiempos Newspaper and Editor in Chief Estrella Durán for helping amplify SALAD’s commitment to civic education and informed participation in our community.

Their bilingual coverage of SALAD’s Kendall Judicial Forum helped bring greater attention to the judicial races decided by Miami-Dade County voters on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. The forum gave judicial candidates an opportunity to speak directly to residents about their experience, qualifications, and judicial philosophy—helping voters approach the ballot with greater knowledge of an often-overlooked but critically important branch of government.

We are also grateful to the Kendall Federation of Homeowners Associations (KFHA) for partnering with us and helping make this professionally executed community forum possible.

One passage from the Los Tiempos article captured a particularly meaningful moment:

“Seven-year-old Juan D’Arce III drew smiles leading the Pledge of Allegiance, setting a tone both solemn and hopeful.”

Congratulations to all the candidates who earned the trust of voters in today’s elections, and to those advancing to the General Election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

The Spanish American League Against Discrimination (SALAD) also extends its sincere appreciation to every candidate who stepped forward to serve. Whether victorious or not, participating in our electoral process strengthens our communities and helps preserve the democratic system we value.

Renee Gordon was proud to participate in the 2026 SALAD Judicial Forum in Kendall, an opportunity to engage with the community and help voters learn more about the candidates seeking to serve on the bench.

Judicial elections deserve thoughtful attention, and forums like this give voters another way to hear directly from candidates, ask questions, and become more informed about the choices on their ballot.

SALAD President Juan D’Arce Joins Community Leaders to Urge Hispanic Voters Ahead of August 18 Primaries

MIAMI-DADE, FL — Ahead of the August 18, 2026 primary elections, SALAD (Spanish American League Against Discrimination) President Juan D’Arce joined community leaders, including Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections Alina Garcia, at a press conference on Sunday, August 9, 2026, to urge Hispanic residents across South Florida to make their voices heard at the polls.

D’Arce reflected on why the right to vote carries special weight for so many in our community:

“So many of our people came here from Cuba, from Venezuela, from Nicaragua — countries where dictatorships never allowed them to vote, never allowed them a real voice in their own future. Here, we have that right. It would dishonor everything they sacrificed if we let it go unused. This is why we say: ¡Vota para que te respeten!”

Supervisor of Elections Alina Garcia was also present at the event, reinforcing the importance of Hispanic participation in the upcoming primaries.

MIAMI-DADE, FL — De cara a las elecciones primarias del 18 de agosto de 2026, el presidente de SALAD (Spanish American League Against Discrimination), Juan D’Arce, se unió a líderes comunitarios, incluyendo a la Supervisora de Elecciones del Condado Miami-Dade, Alina García, en una conferencia de prensa realizada el domingo 9 de agosto de 2026, para exhortar a los residentes hispanos del sur de la Florida a hacer valer su voz en las urnas.
