This Hispanic Heritage Month, the Spanish American League Against Discrimination (SALAD) celebrates Hispanic excellence: skilled professionals, educated thinkers, experienced public servants, and accomplished entrepreneurs ready to lead.

Hispanic Americans help build businesses, educate generations, uphold justice, and strengthen our nation. Their achievements reflect preparation, discipline, resilience, and results.

For 52 years, since our founding on July 10, 1974, SALAD has challenged discrimination and championed opportunity through meritocracy—recognizing people for their qualifications, ability, character, and contributions. We believe leadership should be earned through competence, integrity, and service, and that qualified Hispanic talent deserves recognition and consideration.

We honor the presidents who have guided this mission, in order:

Celebrating community leadership and building connections that open doors! 🇺🇸🤝

The Spanish American League Against Discrimination (SALAD) was proudly represented by our President, Juan D’Arce, M.S.Ed., P.I., C.P.S., at Christian Family Coalition (CFC) Florida’s 2026 Miami-Dade Freedom & Awards Gala Dinner on October 2 at Trump National Doral. With gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds as keynote speaker, the evening celebrated faith, family, freedom, and community leadership.

The fabulous VIP Reception sparked meaningful conversations with The Honorable Tarlika Nunez-Navarro, Dean & Professor of Law at St. Thomas University College of Law; Nicole Reinoso, City of Doral Councilwoman and Director of Alumni Relations and Events; and Madelin D’Arce, Esq., Town of Miami Lakes, Florida magistrate and Director of the CORAL GABLES BAR ASSOCIATION INCORPORATED.

Together, they discussed opportunities to support law students, K–12 students, and our community through education, mentorship, and service.

For 52 years, SALAD has proudly cultivated strong relationships with the legal community. We honor the foundation laid by Founding President Javier Bray and the legacy of our sixth president, Osvaldo Soto, Esq., namesake of the Osvaldo N. Soto Miami-Dade Justice Center.

Under President D’Arce’s leadership, SALAD remains committed to participating in and supporting programs at institutions such as STU Law that connect education with community service.

Thoughtful, informed board service helps community organizations grow stronger and serve more effectively. We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn alongside fellow community leaders and bring fresh ideas back to SALAD.

Since our founding in 1974, SALAD has worked to advance opportunity and strengthen our community. We continue building on the foundation laid by our Founding President, Javier Bray, and the leadership of our sixth President, Osvaldo Soto, Esq. This moment is especially meaningful to SALAD because each of these candidates participated in our SALAD Judicial Forum 2026, demonstrating a willingness to engage directly with the community and participate in the civic-education process.

Judicial elections matter. Yet, because judicial candidates must appropriately observe important ethical limitations when campaigning, voters do not always have the same opportunities to learn about them as they do candidates for other elected offices. That makes nonpartisan civic forums especially valuable.

Through the SALAD Judicial Forum 2026, our community had an opportunity to hear directly from judicial candidates, learn more about their qualifications and experience, and become better informed before casting their ballots.

We thank every candidate who participated in the forum and helped SALAD advance one of our fundamental missions: empowering voters through civic education and informed participation.

Congratulations to Judge-Elect Alvarez, Judge-Elect Diaz, Judge-Elect Gordon, and Judge Eig on earning the confidence of Miami-Dade County voters. A sincere thank you to Bilingual Los Tiempos Newspaper and Editor in Chief Estrella Durán for helping amplify SALAD’s commitment to civic education and informed participation in our community.

Their bilingual coverage of SALAD’s Kendall Judicial Forum helped bring greater attention to the judicial races decided by Miami-Dade County voters on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. The forum gave judicial candidates an opportunity to speak directly to residents about their experience, qualifications, and judicial philosophy—helping voters approach the ballot with greater knowledge of an often-overlooked but critically important branch of government.

We are also grateful to the Kendall Federation of Homeowners Associations (KFHA) for partnering with us and helping make this professionally executed community forum possible.

One passage from the Los Tiempos article captured a particularly meaningful moment:

“Seven-year-old Juan D’Arce III drew smiles leading the Pledge of Allegiance, setting a tone both solemn and hopeful.”

That moment represented something larger than one evening. Civic responsibility is passed from one generation to the next, and educating future generations about our democratic institutions is part of building a stronger community.

As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, the Spanish American League Against Discrimination (SALAD) remains committed to nonpartisan civic education, voter engagement, and community empowerment.

Showing up matters.

Renee Gordon was proud to participate in the 2026 SALAD Judicial Forum in Kendall, an opportunity to engage with the community and help voters learn more about the candidates seeking to serve on the bench.

Judicial elections deserve thoughtful attention, and forums like this give voters another way to hear directly from candidates, ask questions, and become more informed about the choices on their ballot.
