Yantai is unique among Chinese cities in that it has a long, rich Christian history. Since it was one of the first open ports to the world, Western Protestant missionaries began arriving in Yantai in the 1850s. At one point in the late 1800s, there were more churches in Yantai than streets.

Today, the heritage of these churches remain. House churches continue to carry on the work of gospel in this coastal city. This September, will you join us in praying for them?

Large Churches in the U.S. host various conferences each year, the Gospel Coalition has a national conference every other year, each major denomination in America has annual assemblies and business meetings, but for the house churches in China, these types of gatherings are impossible due to political and security reasons.

However, our brothers and sisters in China still find creative ways to get together and encourage one another. Recently, a couple of us were able to join them in one of these gatherings, and these are some of our reflections from that gathering.

*NEW* podcast episode:

Up until April 2023, with a population of 1.4 billion people, China was known to be the most populous country in the world. Its high population was the main concern behind the famous one-child-policy. In recent years, however, birth rates in China have dropped significantly, leading the Chinese government not only to abolish the one-child-policy, but began offering incentives for young Chinese families to have more children.

Despite this effort, China’s birth rate hit a record low in 2025, with only 5.63 births per 1,000 people, with some young people in China now referring to themselves as “the last generation.” Today, we are going to talk about the origin of this phrase, “the last generation,” and what a declining birth rate means for the Chinese church.

This week we are praying for the Chinese diaspora in Australia. There are 1.4 million Chinese in Australia out of a total population of just over 27 million, about 5.5%. Pray that each one of them will have a personal encounter with the gospel of Christ.
