Fuyang has many believers, thanks to the rural revival that swept through the area in the 1980s and 90s. Church leaders say they have experienced significant persecution over the last few years, but that God has matured them and their churches through the difficulty.

Ever since Christianity entered China, it has encountered many stumbling blocks: language barriers, clash of civilizations, foreign distrusts, internal persecution. Jesus says in Matthew 11, “From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force.”

The mission to expand the Kingdom of God into new territories is often slow and discouraging, but Jesus also promised to be with his people to the ends of the world. This month, we are going to talk about several major stumbling blocks that make believing in Jesus difficult in China.

The city of Fuyang lies on the Central Plains of China. A third-tier city in Anhui province, Fuyang is a center for agriculture. Its population is large, yet it has not developed as quickly as other cities in China. In the 1880’s, Hudson Taylor’s China Inland Mission arrived in the city, planting the roots of the gospel.

Today, there are still house churches in Fuyang. This month, we will spend time praying for their needs and challenges. Will you join us in praying for Fuyang this month?

This month, we are praying for the city of Fuyang, an inland city located in the northwestern border of the Anhui province. Pray that the gospel can take root in this city and extend its reach far and wide.

Over the last five years, Zhengzhou and surrounding areas have experienced natural disaster, Covid and its aftermath, a struggling economy, and a modernizing urban area. The church is also walking through each of these events, and trying to shepherd believers through all the changes. Local leaders say their churches are shepherding families through the struggles of child-rearing, while also continuing to share the gospel with those who don’t yet know Christ.

Li Yingqiang wrote this in 2024 as he reflected on the 3rd anniversary of his close friend's imprisonment. Today, Li himself is in jail.
