After rescheduling twice due to inclement weather this winter, we are excited to finally welcome guitarist Marel Hidalgo to Metuchen!

Come out tomorrow, June 20, 2:00 PM at the Metuchen Public Library, for this special Metuchen Jazz concert presenting the exceptionally young talented guitarist Marel Hidalgo and his group. Marel performs with organist Enoch Swift, Jr. and the highly respected and recognized Byron Landham on drums.

Marel began playing at age 4 and by age 6 had his own band performing a variety of music. When he heard the music of legendary jazz guitarist Joe Pass, he decided to focus on becoming a jazz guitarist. Metuchen Public Library

We're launching Friends of FOMA, a community fundraising campaign to keep arts programming alive and thriving in Metuchen. Friends of Metuchen Arts is dedicated to sustaining visual arts, film, music, theatre, and dance in our community, much of it free or at a low cost, while ensuring that artists are compensated fairly for their work. This work is only possible thanks to the generous support of our donors. If you enjoy the programs we put on and the artists we support, please consider becoming a Friend of FOMA!

Local Artists- You asked for more opportunities for artists to network, and FOMA delivered!

Don't the best opportunity of the year to meet and deepen relationships with Central Jersey artists if you let this go by. We can share ideas and make our voices heard - but only if we come together!

This is your chance to be inspired and connect with local artists!

Meet featured panelist: Linda Vonderschmidt LaStella

With a BA degree in English and an MFA in painting and ceramics, the whole of
Linda’s professional life has circled around education and the arts. She has
taught art in formal classroom settings at every level from pre-K to college.
Between 1986 and 1991 she had the wonderful opportunity to have a studio,
Canticles in Clay, on the grounds of Neumann University. It was during that time
that she was commissioned to create a large ceramic mural “New Life,” as well as “The Canticle” for Neumann.

In 1997, Linda established Earthsongs, a ceramic studio,“to be a peaceful oasis…” With a strong desire to share the healing energy of creating in clay, she regularly offered classes and workshops for adults and children there, even as she created her own sculptural tile and commissioned installations, and exhibited widely.
Subsequently, she became involved with several community arts organizations,
took leadership positions there and established a series of community galleries.
She then began to work in public art, involving anyone who wished to
participate to create installed ceramic murals, and be part of alternative
exhibits, and diverse outdoor art events…lots of people would remember Junebug and the Community Mural at the Tennis Courts... continually creating new and inviting ways that would bring the community together around art.

All of that work sculpting ‘human clay,’ seemed to flow appropriately from her
work with ‘earthy clay.’ Now, her focus is exclusively on her studio practice, working both from commissions, as well as developing her own original work.
