Here at the food pantry, we enjoy our continued collaboration with the Metuchen School District. Recently, the members of the MHS Math National Honor Society shared a book called Harlem Grown with the kindergartners. The book focuses on teaching children about healthy eating, community collaboration, and battling food insecurity. The book highlights converting an abandoned lot into a community garden. As part of their lesson at Moss School, the kindergarten students drew their own rows of vegetables and added the numbers together. Then, to bring this full circle for the kindergartners, they walked over to our food pantry to visit our garden and the food pantry, so they could see how this is achieved in their own town. Additionally, we had the students from the 18-21 year old high school transition class in the next room making sandwiches for the Elijah’s Promise Soup Kitchen. It was a busy day!
