Oakwood Creative Care is redefining what it means to age well.

Oakwood Creative Care is redefining aging through creative, whole-body care that sparks joy, nurtures brain health, enhances quality of life, and empowers older adults to thrive while building healthier, more connected communities at every age. Through our innovative, research-based Day Clubs, we offer creative and compassionate care for older adults living with dementia, Parkinson’s, stroke recovery, and other cognitive or physical challenges. We believe that a diagnosis does not define a person’s story—and that there is treatment beyond a pill. Our approach goes beyond traditional care models by empowering members to rediscover purpose, joy, and connection through art, movement, and meaningful engagement. We also walk alongside caregivers at every stage of their journey, offering education, support, and respite. Recognizing that care should be available to everyone, regardless of their age or abilities, Oakwood Creative Care fosters a community-wide movement toward healthy brain living, equipping neighbors across Arizona (& beyond) with resources and inspiration to embrace aging with creativity and hope.

Arizona Community Foundation President & CEO Anna Maria Chávez recently sat down with leaders from Oakwood Creative Care to learn more about the organization’s work in dementia care, brain health and family caregiver support.

As Arizona’s aging population grows, so does the need to think differently about how we support older adults and their families. The conversation explored how families navigate care, the importance of trusted community resources and opportunities to help older adults remain connected and supported as their needs change.

The visit builds on a recent conversation with Glencroft Center for Modern Aging and is part of a larger effort to learn directly from organizations approaching aging through different parts of the system. Together, these conversations are helping build a deeper understanding of the needs facing older adults, family caregivers and the organizations that support them.
