Press Release

The Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency will host a full-scale training exercise with area rescue agencies on August 20th, 2026 beginning at 5:00 pm. The exercise will take place in Meriden, IA where the old Meriden School used to be, just Southwest of the intersection of Eagle and West 3rd Street.
A full-scale exercise is a planned “real life scenario” that is designed to test local and county emergency response plans and capabilities.
This exercise will focus on a mass causality incident with a significant number of injured patients. Areas to be tested will vary from Communications, Incident Command, EMS response, and vehicle extrication techniques.
Key players in the exercise are: Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee County Communications, Cherokee Fire, Marcus Police Department, Marcus Fire/Rescue and Ambulance, Cleghorn Fire/Rescue, Meriden Fire/Rescue, Larrabee Fire/Rescue, Aurelia Fire/Rescue, Quimby Fire/Rescue, Washta Fire/Rescue, Cherokee Regional Medical Center, and Wings Air Care.
The public is welcomed to observe the exercise; however, we ask that vehicles are properly stopped and parked for viewing. Designated seating area is located across the road on Eagle Street. Law enforcement will keep vehicle traffic moving along, to prevent accidents and injuries. We also ask the public to be respectful of the perimeter that is set up, as a matter of public safety.

It's all done . The apron out front of the fire station was over 20 yrs old . It was time to replace it . With the fire trucks getting bigger . We had to adapt for heavier trucks now days .
This wouldn't be possible without help from the Cherokee legacy foundation they granted us money to help get this project completed this year along with the City of Meriden
We also got a prescription drug take back box from The Cherokee County Sheriff's Department. As pictured.
So all your out of date meds and the stuff your not using or taking anymore can be placed in the box no questions asked .

I'm very happy with the way this project turned out. Thank you all for your continued support to us as we continue make upgrades ...
