Severe weather is possible across our area today. Please take a few minutes now to prepare before storms move in.

πŸŒͺ️ Have multiple ways to receive warnings
πŸ“± Charge phones and weather radios
πŸš— Move vehicles inside if possible
🐢 Bring pets indoors during storms
🌳 Secure loose outdoor items that could blow away
⚑ Avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather warnings

Remember:
β€’ A π–πšππœπ‘ means conditions are favorable for severe weather
β€’ A π–πšπ«π§π’π§π  means severe weather is happening or imminent β€” take shelter immediately

If a tornado warning is issued:
➑️ Move to a basement or small interior room on the lowest level
➑️ Stay away from windows
➑️ Do not shelter under overpasses
➑️ If outdoors, have a plan before storms arrive

The Cherokee Fire Department will be monitoring conditions closely. Please help keep emergency lines open for emergencies only during severe weather events.

Stay weather aware and stay safe. πŸš’

Hantavirus is a sickness that comes from rodent droppings and urine--most strains do not go from people to people but only from animals to people. The strain from the cruise ship does go from people to people but you need to be in a confined space to get it from someone else.

Global public health officials have been working hard to contain this sickness from the cruise ship. While there are people going to Omaha--it is because they have a special set up there to help during major sicknesses like this (previously this location was even used for Ebola!).

So, there is no threat to the public and you do not need to change any of your plans if you are planning to go to Omaha in the near future. Public Health officials are working hard to contain the virus within the Omaha facility at this time.
