The inaugural “Bookstock at the Mountain” literacy celebration was held on Tuesday, May 12 in the Ouachita Center on the UARM campus. Authors Jen Crane (The Snipe Hunt), Silas Cross (Billy Bob Big Feet), and Holli Plunkett (Naughty Maggie) sparked imagination, storytelling, and learning with Polk County students. After each author talk, students were provided snacks of “Maggie’s favorite ‘human’ treats,” “critters from the swamp and swamp water,” and “worms from Hollow Creek Woods with river water,” and they had their picture taken in front of a themed backdrop with characters from the books.
Made possible through a collaborative partnership between the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Quality of Life Outreach, and UA Rich Mountain Foundation, the event showcased the power of community support in promoting literacy and educational enrichment for area students. Funding was provided by American Legion Auxiliary donation, Harbor House Prevention Programs grant, Kappa State Education Foundation grant, UARM Foundation, and Walmart Foundation grant,
