On a recent trek into trails 6 & 8 to pick up trash from the trash cans, I found this marker on the side of a trail that has been there a long time. Someone who has no respect for other people’s property destroyed it. The cans left, behind are what we have to deal with from people who think they have the right to do whatever they want.
Therefore, we have trash cans posted in different areas, that someone has to keep emptied and that someone is locals, like me. At the present there are Cleve Gilmore, Pam Ferguson, Glen Test, Roger Morphene and myself who have to empty them every week to 10 days when the trails are open.
We have no choice, we have to keep the National Forest cleaned up the best we can or they will close the trails.
As Ouachita Mountains Trail & ATV Club Vise President, I am suggesting that anyone who is a member of the club, does not pay Sponsor dues for this Facebook site or for the Map Sponsor went we do a map.
If anyone wants to take someone’s place and can be trusted to be dependable in picking up every week when the trails are open, you can have mine or some of the other persons. We furnish bags and dump sites.
Pam Ferguson has been picking up trash for years, and she is very tired. I do not know about Glen or Roger. But we are all in this together. It’s not just a place for us to play, we have to keep it maintained, in regards to trash.
The Forest Service did “blade” some of the trails recently. Some spots have already washed out but not to bad. The main problem was some large boulders and getting over them.
The best solution would be for people to respect the law of “no liquor in the national forest”, but that is not going to happen, unless there is very strict law enforcement.
And of course, for people to respect property regardless of who it belongs too.
