RITA ORTOLINO-DIOGUARDI

 

 

Rita Ortolino-Dioguardi, a talented collage and quilt artist, has been creating collage art since a young girl. What started as childhood art projects has bloomed into unique and colorful pieces of art. These stunning images are spontaneous creations. Her paper collages are created by ripping, not cutting, simple splashes of color from magazines and glossy advertisements and her quilts are born from simple scraps of material. Each piece of art is given a witty name that helps bring the creation to life.  Rita has proudly served as a board member of ArtsMedford since 2023.

 

250th  USA !  

This piece of art emphasizes that every person is born with the fundamental rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness .  Our government, at the Boston State House, the battles fought now and ago along with others help to establish and legislate for all of us to have continued pursuit for the good of the people and the established rights of LIFE, LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.

WEARY SOLDIER WALKING HOME FROM BATTLE

This piece of art emphasizes a battle that has been won as the solider walks away with his horse in tow..  Each step is heavy and exhausting but his life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is all encompassing as getting home from the battle is in sight.

Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness and We the People grew from my interest in the distance between the ideals we inherit and the realities we experience. Using black-and-white photographs as the foundation and layering them through the risograph process, I wanted to create images that feel both familiar and fragmented. The textures, imperfections, and overlapping colors reflect the complexity of memory, identity, and democracy.

Mediums: Acrylic and mixed media paintings.

My paintings come from my love of color and texture. I like to experiment

with unusual color combinations as well as using different elements to add

texture to each painting. Sometimes that involves brush strokes, palette

knives, mediums added to the paint or other materials such as fabric

doilies, textured papers or simply placing two paintings together and

pulling apart to see what happens to the paint.

Vermont Mountain was completed using a series of different brushes to

move the paint in different ways while listening to an orchestra playing

classical music.

Revere Beach Sunrise is an interpretation of the sunrises I see from my

deck. Some of the texture was again achieved by brush strokes and sponge

effects, but also includes the use of glass bead medium, glitter and jewelry.

Rose Lambias



Rose Lambias is a Medford, Massachusetts–based artist whose work is deeply inspired by the beauty and quiet poetry of nature. From the rugged coastline of Maine to the forests, gardens, and changing seasons of New England her work reflects the beauty all around us. Working primarily in watercolor and acrylic, she creates luminous compositions that celebrate the delicate rhythms of the natural world, capturing fleeting moments of light, color, and movement.

She is the author and illustrator of the children’s book, “Sunflowers Dance at Night” which encourages children to use their imagination.

Her work can be thought provoking, as are the paintings in this exhibit.

For America's 250th birthday, Rose celebrates the diversity in today's world with her painting "Reflections of Love, Undivided” In this painting couples walking together, all in the same direction are unified with only one purpose. That is, to be accepted. As she painted, she created stories in her mind around each couple. Look closely at the painting, reflect and find yourself along the path.

The second painting "Peace on Earth" , brings all people, of every color together. Written by Thomas Jefferson, in our Constitution are these word “We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” The unification of these multi colored hands, cause a rippling effect throughout the earth that unites us all here, in America, the melting pot.

Milo Austin

 

Hello, my name is Milo, I am a nineteen-year-old artist and I have lived in Medford my whole life. I feel very connected to the community here and to the greater Boston area as a whole. To me being an artist is very meaningful. Being an artist comes with responsibility. A responsibility to treat my platform with respect and to make my voice heard. My work talks about topics that are important to my day-to-day life and also the lives of those around me. I want to be an artist that is not afraid to make a statement or to be judged. I want to spread love and life energy to those who need it.  

  “Old Glory” is a piece about gun culture in the United States.  

 

Our values as a country are out of touch with reality. In today's time there is almost no separation between American culture and owning a gun. The separation is created between the people. A separation between neighbors, friends, and family. It is a separation that pushes people apart, drawing a long line down the social fabric of our country. “Political” issues tear families in half, but there is nothing political about saving lives or about having safe places to learn. Guns are machines that were created to kill. Guns are America.

LAWRENCE ELENTUKH

A Lawrence Elentukh is a Medford-based artist, best known for his textured oil and mixed media paintings. His work can be found in local exhibits around Boston and on Instagram LE Visions Gallery. As a self-taught painter and university-taught engineer, he understands the importance of creative expression for humanity’s liberty (as well as life and pursuit of happiness), and has a first-hand view of the evolution/revolution of AI. With his latest art piece, Rend[er] evokes the dichotomy of artificial ‘intelligence’ image generation; as it artificially renders content, it acts to rend human creativity and suppress independent thought.
