Snapshot: Hospital Emergency Response Training

Responders practice triage and decontamination procedures during the Hospital Emergency Response Training for Mass Casualty Incidents (HERT) Course at FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness. HERT prepares healthcare responders to work as part of a hospital emergency response team – utilizing the Hospital Incident Command System, determining and using appropriate personal protective equipment, and conducting triage followed by decontamination of patients. The five days of training typically include HERT, its train-the-trainer component and an Integrated Capstone Event, a comprehensive exercise where students work together in response to simulated mass casualty incidents. With the hot weather continuing, here are tips for staying safe and healthy.

Limit sun exposure during the hottest parts of the day (typically from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.). People who don’t have air conditioners can find cooler indoor air with friends or family, or at designated cooling centers, when available.

YCMRC volunteers teamed up with Yamhill County Public Health to give vaccines and share community resources at Unidos Bridging Community's health fair in Newberg on Saturday.

The Medical Reserve Corps is a national network of volunteers who strengthen community health and emergency preparedness. MRC volunteers support disaster response, public health emergencies, and everyday preparedness activities such as CPR/AED training and these community resource/ vaccination clinics.

Unidos supports workforce development, mutual aid, education, policy advocacy, and resource connection to the Latinx community in the Willamette Valley.
