According to the National Foster Youth Institute: "nationwide, 50% of the homeless population spent time in foster care."

Despite the hard work of foster parents as well as public and private agencies, the system is still a "highway to homelessness". NFYI also reports that an average of "1 out of every 4 youth in foster care will become homeless within 4 years of aging out of foster care."

This is why we exist: to walk alongside older foster and aged out youth to provide a network of support as they transition to become vibrantly independent young adults!

Over 70% of girls who age out of foster care will end up pregnant by age 21.

A significant number of their children will end up in foster care as well, repeating the cycle.

It's National Foster Care Month, so we're getting the word out about the challenges and pressures that youth aging out of foster care face.

Today we proudly celebrate Direction 61:3 and their 8 Year Anniversary as a valued Serve Denton Partner! 🎉

Direction 61:3 helps foster youth, ages 15–22, transition to independence through resident and non-resident programs, guiding these young adults to find their purpose through faith-based support.

We are grateful for eight years of partnership and for the incredible impact they continue to make in the lives of young people throughout our community. Thank you for your compassion and commitment to empowering the next generation.
