Working towards reproductive justice in South Texas. What is reproductive justice?

Reproductive justice is a term that was created by Black women. It joins the concepts of reproductive rights and social justice. For more information on why this term is particularly important for people of color, see this link: http://www.sistersong.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=141&Itemid=81

Why not just say pro-choice? Right now, a lot of people in South Texas don't HAVE a choice because they don't have access; as of October, our abortion clinics were forced to close. People who are undocumented, poor, or in an abusive relationship now have little to no access to abortion because the closest clinic is in Corpus, past the Border Patrol checkpoint. Yes, we're pro-choice, but the conversation also needs to evolve past "choice" and take other factors of marginalization (such as citizenship and poverty) into consideration.

We’re looking back at “Abortion in the 956,” an art installation collab that offers a warm insight into how a self-managed abortion might look like in the 956 from eating comfort Hot Cheetos to scrolling on the phone for a distraction. 📞

Curious about it? Check out the installation on our website. 🫶🏽
