A HUGE thank you to Stephanie and 80/20 Jiu-Jitsu for opening your doors and your hearts to Gracious Hearts for our Reclaim Your Power self-defense course!
Although the subject was serious, the morning was filled with learning, laughter, encouragement, and empowerment. Stephanie has a heart of gold, and her kindness and passion for helping others made this experience so special. We are incredibly grateful for her generosity in making this opportunity possible at no cost to our survivors and volunteers.
In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, this course was a reminder that safety matters, strength can be rebuilt, and every woman deserves to feel empowered in her own life. We are thankful for spaces where women can learn, grow, and support one another.

🏠💜 WORLD HOMELESS DAY | OCTOBER 10

We have a homelessness crisis in our community, and we need to do MORE.

Today, on World Homeless Day, Gracious Hearts is bringing attention to a growing crisis that can no longer be overlooked.

Every day, women and children in our community face housing instability, displacement, and homelessness. For many survivors of domestic violence, escaping abuse is only the beginning of another difficult battle: finding a safe place to call home.

Our founder has been working tirelessly behind the scenes, researching solutions, building partnerships, and exploring opportunities to help address the growing homelessness crisis in the Rio Grande Valley.

At Gracious Hearts, we recognize that temporary assistance alone is not enough. We must work toward sustainable, long-term solutions that provide individuals and families with stability, safety, and opportunities to rebuild their lives.

We have a problem. A serious problem. And as a community, we simply are not doing enough.

We need stronger partnerships, greater investment in housing solutions, more resources, and most importantly, a willingness to come together and address the root causes of homelessness.

We know this crisis is bigger than any one organization, but that does not mean we stop searching for solutions.

Today, on World Mental Health Day, we’re reminded that there is no health without mental health. Every person deserves to feel supported, heard, and understood. Mental health matters just as much as physical health, and caring for our minds is an essential part of caring for ourselves.
Whether someone is navigating stress, grief, trauma, or the challenges of everyday life, a little compassion can go a long way. Let’s continue breaking the stigma, checking on one another, and creating a community where asking for help is met with understanding, not judgment.

Join Gracious Hearts on Saturday, November 7, in San Juan, TX, at the Precinct 2 Hike & Bike Trail. The 1K begins at 7:30 AM and the 5K at 8:30 AM. Registration is $30 for individuals, $25 per person for teams of 6+, and $15 for children 12 and under.

Healing Hearts, Restoring Hope!
At Gracious Hearts, we believe healing goes beyond escaping abuse. Through our Healing Hearts Program, we encourage survivors to actively participate in their healing through counseling, support groups, church services, Bible studies, and personal growth. Our Client Point System rewards these steps with continued assistance for food, gas, and other essential needs. Faith-based participation is always optional.

Faith in Action!
Recently, Gracious Hearts helped a survivor secure a place to live, and New Life Family Church stepped in to help make it a home by providing essential household items!
We are incredibly grateful to New Life Family Church for being the hands and feet of Jesus and demonstrating what happens when faith communities come together to support survivors.
Together, we’re not just meeting needs. We’re restoring hope, rebuilding lives, and creating pathways toward healing!

Domestic violence and human trafficking can look different, but they can share a common thread: power, control, coercion, and exploitation.
Trafficking can occur within intimate-partner relationships, and domestic violence can create vulnerability to further exploitation and control. Financial dependence, isolation, threats, technology, sexual violence, housing instability, and children being used as leverage can all become tools of control.
Understanding these intersections matters because recognizing the signs can help us better support survivors and connect them with appropriate resources.
