MAGIC is the official Sister Cities organization for the City of McAlester, Oklahoma. Patrick’s Day Community Festival.

Our mission is to build lasting international relationships through cultural exchange, youth programs, economic collaboration, and community events. Next month, a McAlester delegation will travel to Marciano della Chiana, Italy, where the communities plan to ceremonially sign their Friendship City agreement during Marciano’s Sept. 27 festival.

Friendship City relationships aren’t just about communities—they’re about future generations.

Through educational partnerships, student exchanges, classroom collaborations, and pen pal programs, young people have the opportunity to learn about different cultures while sharing what makes McAlester special.

These experiences encourage curiosity, understanding, and friendships that can last a lifetime.

Investing in education is one of the greatest opportunities created through international partnerships, and we’re excited to continue expanding these programs as our Friendship City relationship grows.

One of the most exciting opportunities created through our Friendship City relationship is the chance to connect through art.

MAGIC’s Friendship Through Art initiative is designed to showcase local artists while building creative connections with our friends in Marciano della Chiana.

From artwork and handcrafted gifts to exhibitions, workshops, and collaborative projects, art has a unique way of bringing people together across languages and cultures.

A special thank you to the McAlester Area Arts and Humanities Council for partnering with MAGIC to help launch our inaugural Friendship Through Art initiative. Their collaboration will help showcase the incredible talent of local artists while building meaningful cultural connections with our friends in Marciano della Chiana, Italy. We can’t wait to share this journey with our community.

As we prepare for our upcoming visit to Italy, we’re excited to highlight the incredible talent found right here in McAlester and southeast Oklahoma.

Now that the Friendship City Agreement has been approved, what happens next?

Over the coming months, MAGIC will work alongside our partners in Marciano della Chiana to begin exploring opportunities including:

🎓 Educational exchanges

🎨 Friendship Through Art

🎼 Music Without Borders

✈️ Tourism promotion

🤝 Community partnerships

This fall, members of MAGIC and community leaders will travel to Italy to continue building relationships and identifying opportunities that can benefit both communities.

The Friendship City Agreement isn’t the finish line.

It’s the beginning of a lasting friendship.

Another exciting step toward a historic milestone for McAlester.

Today, the McAlester City Council approved the proposed Friendship City Agreement between the City of McAlester and Marciano della Chiana, Italy.

This approval moves our communities one step closer to officially establishing a Friendship City relationship built on shared heritage, cultural exchange, education, tourism, and lasting community connections.

While today’s vote is an important milestone, the journey is just beginning.

In the months ahead, MAGIC will continue working with our friends in Marciano della Chiana as we prepare for the official signing of the Friendship City Agreement and begin exploring educational exchanges, artistic collaborations, tourism initiatives, and cultural programs that will strengthen both communities.

Thank you to the McAlester City Council, our volunteers, sponsors, supporters, and everyone who has believed in MAGIC’s vision.

Together, we’re building a friendship that will connect our communities across the Atlantic for years to come.
