Today, we proudly honor the American Flag, our nation’s enduring symbol of unity, freedom, and resilience. Adopted on June 14, 1777, the Stars and Stripes represent the values, sacrifices, and shared spirit that have united generations of Americans.

Did you know that Flag Day has strong roots in the Elks? In 1907, the Elks designated June 14 as Flag Day, and by 1910, every Lodge was observing the occasion. Through the efforts and influence of the Elks, President Woodrow Wilson officially recognized Flag Day in 1916. Later, in 1949, President Harry Truman, an Elk himself, signed legislation establishing Flag Day as a national observance.

Happy Flag Day! 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 Oklahoma Elks Supporting Tomorrow’s Leaders

Oklahoma Elks Association President-Elect Chris Sutterfield recently spoke at the graduation ceremony for the Cadet Lawman Academy, emphasizing the importance of preparing for the future as they take the next step in their journeys.

The Cadet Lawman Academy is a week-long program held each June in Warner, Oklahoma, for high school students who have just completed their junior year. Through a partnership between the Oklahoma Elks State Major Projects and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, approximately 140 students receive training in defensive driving, firearm safety, leadership, and respect for law enforcement.

Staffed by volunteer troopers and law enforcement officers, the program is funded by Oklahoma Elks State Major Projects and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers Association. Oklahoma Elks support helps provide food, clothing, and housing for both cadets and instructors throughout the week.

Thank you, Oklahoma Elks members, for making impactful programs like this possible and helping invest in the future of our communities.

This Memorial Day, let us pause to honor and remember the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Their courage, service, and devotion to our country will never be forgotten.

As we enjoy time with family and friends this holiday weekend, let us also take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and the freedoms we are blessed to enjoy because of those who gave everything.

From all of us at McAlester Elks Lodge #533, we wish everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day weekend. ❤️🇺🇸
