The Coles County ROSC Coordinator, Skylar, is grateful to have been included in this piece about our candlelight vigil, a night that meant so much to so many of us.

Thank you to everyone who came, stood beside us, shared in the silence, lit a candle, and helped us remember the people we’ve lost. Your presence mattered more than words can say.

A special thank you to our speaker for being brave enough to share their story and to say the things that aren’t easy to say. It takes incredible courage to speak openly about grief, loss, and the realities of overdose, and I’m deeply grateful that you gave voice to something so many of us carry.

And to everyone who has lost someone to overdose, I’m holding space for you and your grief. We know that behind every statistic is a person is who is greatly missed.

May we continue to remember them, support one another, and speak openly about the lives behind these losses. 🕯️❤️

Next month is National Recovery Month, and the Coles County Recovery Oriented Systems of Care wanted to get a head start on making sure people not only have the resources to combat overdoses but also celebrate those they have lost.
