Be honest: when did you last really look at a pigeon?
It's World Pigeon Day, so here's your reminder that these city birds are way cooler than we give them credit for...
1. They mate for life, and males dance to win over their partners.
2. See a flock suddenly scatter? Look up—a hawk or falcon may be hunting.
3. There's a reason you never see baby pigeons. But it is possible to hear them.
4. And the kicker: there's no real difference between a pigeon and a dove. The symbol of peace and the bird on your windowsill? Both part of the family Columbidae.
Next time you pass a flock, stop and watch for a minute.
