This afternoon Engine 1 with a crew of 3 responded automatic aid to the Town of Ledyard for a structure fire. Engine 1 arrived and started the initial fire attack. Crew was able make a quick knock on the fire.

Today at 1223 hours, the Ledyard Fire Company,
Gales Ferry Volunteer Fire Company Mashantucket Pequot Firefighters - IAFF Local 4746 were dispatched to Thompson Street for a reported deck fire extending to the structure. Based on initial information, a working fire assignment was transmitted while units were en route.

Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke showing from the front of the residence, with active fire in the rear extending into the first floor and attic space. All occupants had safely evacuated prior to fire department arrival. One individual was evaluated on scene for possible smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were able to rescue two cats from the residence; however, one unfortunately succumbed to its injuries.

The fire was placed under control at 1330 hours. No additional injuries were reported. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ledyard Fire Marshal’s Office.

Mashantucket engine is currently working at a first alarm structure fire in Ledyard. Engine 1 with 3 were first due and stretched the first lines.
