Update 10:00am 9/3, our incredible village has rallied around us and donated $625 toward his vet care & creamation we are so thankful for each and every one of you , our grand total is $679 to get our boys ashes back, we are just $54 away , if you can donate please do ❤️ thank you all for your kindness in this devastating time

💔 ROCKY UPDATE 💔
Unfortunately, we have some heartbreaking news to share.
Rocky’s bowel obstruction was unfortunately beyond repair.

Despite everything the veterinary team did and every effort to save him, there was nothing more that could be done.

Our sweet boy is now crossing over the Rainbow Bridge. This one hurts deeply. Rocky was our longest resident. He had waited and waited for his chance, and we desperately wanted to be the ones to give him the happy ending he deserved.

In such a short amount of time, our village rallied around him. Nearly $300 was raised toward the cost of his surgery, and we cannot thank everyone who donated, shared his story, prayed for him, or simply cared enough to ask about him.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to save Rocky, but your kindness still mattered. You gave us the opportunity to try. You gave Rocky every chance we could possibly give him. ❤️

Any further donations made toward Rocky will go toward the remaining balance of his veterinary care and his cremation, so we can bring him home and give him the peaceful goodbye he deserves.

Thank you to everyone who stood beside Rocky when he needed his village most.

🚨 12:31 PM update on Rocky 🚨

Today we took our longest resident, Rocky, to First Choice Animal Clinic after he suddenly took a heartbreaking turn for the worse.

He has received a basic evaluation, numerous tests, and an X-ray. The X-ray has shown something in his bowel that the veterinarian cannot determine exactly what it is without surgery.

And we now have some devastating news:

Without surgery, Rocky will die.💔

Right now, his body is unable to process or digest anything. We don't know exactly what is blocking his bowel, but we do know that we cannot wait and hope it passes. Rocky needs surgery to have a chance at surviving.

His vet bill is estimated to be around $1,000, and we know that's a huge amount to ask for. But we are asking anyway.

Because Rocky is worth fighting for.

This is the dog who has spent the longest time waiting at our shelter. The dog who has watched so many others come and go while he continued to wait for his person. The dog who has so much love, personality, and life left in him. He’s two years old. 😔

We cannot let his story end here.

💔 Rocky needs donors. He needs his village. He needs people willing to help keep him alive.

📢 A LITTLE UPDATE FROM RCAS

We want to keep our community informed as a few things are changing here at Robertson County Animal Shelter.

Moving forward, our Animal Control Officer, Mia, will be on call from 8 AM–4 PM, 7 days a week. We are incredibly thankful that she has volunteered to take on this additional responsibility to help ensure our animals and community continue to have someone available during those hours.

The reality is that our current budget for the Animal Control position only covers approximately 2–3 hours of paid work per day, 7 days a week. Mia has gone above and beyond by volunteering countless additional hours to make sure our shelter dogs are cared for and that the needs of our community are being addressed.

Unfortunately, this position does not provide a livable wage, which means Mia has to maintain a second job to make ends meet. Because of that, there will be times when she simply cannot be physically available at the shelter outside of her scheduled hours.

🚨 In an emergency outside of the 8 AM–4 PM hours, Mia will still do everything she possibly can to help. Please understand, however, that she is one person and cannot be in two places at once.

Our shelter's hours of operation for the dogs may also vary from day to day depending on what is happening. Vet appointments, animal control calls, investigating complaints, court cases, rescue transports, intakes, emergencies, and the countless other responsibilities that come with this position all have to be managed by ONE person.

We ask our community for a little patience, understanding, and grace as we navigate these changes.

Mia has been given what can sometimes feel like an impossible job with extremely limited resources, and she continues to show up and do everything she can for the animals and the people of Robertson County. ❤️

We are incredibly grateful for her dedication, and we hope our community will continue to support her and RCAS as we work to make the best of what we have.🐾

🚨 ROCKY NEEDS HIS VILLAGE 🚨

Our longest resident, Rocky,(entered 4/14 has unfortunately taken a very sudden and heartbreaking turn for the worse. 💔

We believe Rocky may have eaten part of his bed, and we’re extremely concerned that it has caused a blockage somewhere in his digestive tract. He is no longer eating, and he is no longer pooping. He needs an X-ray to determine what is happening, and he has an appointment first thing this morning at First Choice Animal Clinic.

It has been absolutely heartbreaking to watch this boy go from being so full of life, so interactive, and so happy… to where he is now. Rocky has spent so much of his life waiting for his person, and right now, he needs all of us. 🥺

We’re asking Rocky’s village to rally around him. ❤️
