Amberations

Amberations Offering a place to connect with nature, where exploration, contemplation and community thrive. A lovely deck adorns one end of our barn.

Amberations is a 501(c-3) not for profit whose primary focus is using our near 50 acres of nature as an oasis for people of all abilities to enjoy. Amberations is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting mental health through interaction with the natural environment. With almost 50 acres, we are located on the western edge of Onondaga county in Marietta, New York. At our barn site we

offer opportunities to mingle with our goats, donkey, birds and kitties. There is easy access to a small stream, teaming with frogs, minnows, and salamanders. It’s a nice place to enjoy the sounds of nature and occasionally be visited by a Great Blue Heron. This is a wheelchair friendly area. The entrance to this area is a driveway shared with 2231 Amber Road, next to the Otisco Lake Community Center. Look for the small silhouette of Joe! In our upper fields we have built wheelchair paths surrounding our gazebo and are always working on developing gardens. There are also very nice trails through woods as well as through our songbird habitat. This is the best area for taking dogs and walking trails. The entrance to this area is at 2345 Amber Road, up a long gravel driveway. Go left at the top to find the small parking area in the fields. Our goal is to nurture relationships with the community we seek to serve. Opportunities abound for getting involved in many capacities. If you like nature, the outdoors, gardening, animals, or helping others, please consider giving us a call. Info sessions will be offered at your convenience, for individuals or groups. Please call to schedule your personal tour and find out how you can get involved. Once you are familiar with our grounds they are here for your enjoyment.

Happy Mother's Day! For those of you who haven't been around Amberations for a long time, this is a glimpse of what Mother's Day used to look like. We had a bike race around Otisco Lake and then added on a brunch as the event progressed. Now, the moms at Amberations get a break and can spend time with their families.

If you are at Amberations today, you can wish Jam Jam a Happy Mother's Day, too! I don't think she appreciates roses but does like apples.

Amberations goat visit today!

Just like humans, goats can have accents in their voice based on the herd they grew up in. A study by the Queen Mary University of London found that goats will develop different accents as they age and become part of different herds. They found this to be true as goats in different herds will “talk” with sounds very similar to each other, which differs largely from herd to herd. The only other animals thought to do so are elephants and dolphins.- May 28, 2019 by Thrifty Homesteader
