May is one of the busiest times at Baltimore Woods because we have two huge fundraisers, our Mother’s Day Garden Tour at Sycamore Hill and our Native Plant Sale. Both of the events would not be possible without our incredible volunteers that help plan, setup, and work at the events!

Check out this month's volunteer spotlight on our website to learn all about how volunteers make these special events possible - baltimorewoods.org/volunteer/

The nature club from Ontech Charter High School picked a perfect spring day for their first field trip to Baltimore Woods Nature Center to explore Phillips Pond and the surrounding forest.

During the early morning hike, one participant shared: “‘Wow. It's really nice to get out of the city once in a while."

Come explore with us - the trails are open for you to enjoy a new perspective every day from dawn until dusk.

Have you ever heard a sound similar to a banjo string being plucked by the edge of a pond? This is a Green Frog’s call. Phillip’s Pond at Baltimore Woods is teeming with Green Frogs, as many visiting children can tell you!

On this Nature Moments Monday, one of our educators ventured to the pond and saw some Green Frogs calling up close. When calling, they expand the sides of their throat (also known as the vocal sacs) in order to project the sound. This afternoon, two male Green Frogs were calling very close together, which instigated a territorial battle! One of the frogs eventually swam away.
