Monthly meetings will be held with the intention of educating mothers so they can in turn nurture their child(ren). Through an annual fundraiser, we will have the funds to contribute to causes that will vary by year based on the needs of our communities. ✨ Scholarship Interviews Recap ✨

Last night, five of our moms met at the Chickasaw Library to interview 9 incredible Marion Local seniors for our annual scholarship.

💡 Instead of essays, we chose 15-minute interviews—giving students the chance to speak on real-life topics like:
📱 Social media
🧠 Peer pressure + substance abuse
💚 Mental health
🛑 Bullying
🙏 Values + faith

Their honesty and insight were inspiring—and will help shape our future programming for our community’s youth.

💗 Our favorite moments came from the final questions:
• What advice would you give your younger self?
• How has your mom (or a mother figure) shaped who you are?

The love and appreciation for their moms was undeniable—we encouraged them all to go home and say “thank you.”

🎉 We are so impressed by these young leaders—the Class of 2026 is something special!

What a wonderful night! 💚❤️

Our December gathering at Silas was full of joy — a fun book exchange, lots of Christmas + 90s trivia, and plenty of belly laughs. Just good times with great women. 📚✨

✨ That’s a wrap on our first Babysitting Clinic! ✨

Last night, our 4th and 5th graders completed Night 2 of the program, rotating through five new babysitting-focused stations:
🍼 Feeding & Food Safety Essentials
⛑️ Emergency Response & Basic First Aid
🚲 Outdoor, Road & Vehicle Awareness
🐾 Respect for Neighbors & Pets
📱 Smart Choices: Social Media & Cell Phone Safety

We closed the evening with a fantastic FAQ panel featuring Marion Local high schoolers Dane Rethman, Alyssa Homan, Tanner Hartings, Gina Bruns, and Clara Homan. They shared honest, helpful insights — and answered some impressive questions from our soon-to-be sitters!

All attendees left with a Certificate of Attendance, and we wish each of them the best as they put their new babysitting skills to use.

✨ Tonight we kicked off our first-ever Babysitting Clinic for Marion Local 4th and 5th graders! ✨
Held at the Maria Stein American Legion Hall, this event has been months in the making. When the American Legion Auxiliary first approached our group to take it over, we were a little nervous — but we quickly realized… who better to lead this than a mom’s group! 💙

Our future babysitters rotated through five hands-on stations, learning real-life skills to help them feel confident and prepared:

🍼 Diapering + Bathing Basics
🤒 Crying Baby & Sick Kid Scenarios
🏡 Home Etiquette & House Rules
⛑️ CPR + Choking Safety led by Osgood Area Rescue

A huge shoutout to Osgood Area Rescue’s Megan Barlage, Michael Werling, and Nathan Schutz for leading the CPR + choking station. We sincerely thank this group for giving their time and answering some truly great questions from some very engaged little minds. 💛

We’re already looking forward to Session 2 next Sunday! 👏💙🩵

October Meeting 💛

Earlier this week, Kelly Cline opened her home and hosted our October get-together — complete with a family dinner alongside Father Mark Hoying, her husband, and their three boys before the rest of us joined in for the meeting.

And wow… what a night! Father Mark filled our minds and hearts with so much goodness — his stories, advice, and spiritual health insight had us laughing, reflecting, and just feeling grateful to be together. There’s something special about sitting in a cozy living room, surrounded by moms doing their best, giving back, and supporting one another.

Of course, Father Mark didn’t leave empty-handed — he went home with some homegrown canned goodies and a delicious pie! 🥧🌿

Huge thanks to Kelly for hosting and to everyone who came out — members and friends alike — to enjoy an evening full of warmth, wisdom, and good company. 💛

💖 Modern Mothers of Marion: There’s a Seat for You 💖

As moms, we give so much of ourselves every day—to our kids, our families, our jobs, our churches, our neighbors. But who fills our cups? That’s where Modern Mothers of Marion comes in.

Since launching in 2023, we’ve been able to:
✨ Donate over $6,000 right back into the Marion community
✨ Host 8 community events bringing families together
✨ Step in for neighbors during times of grief, illness, and hardship
✨ Support our teachers, cheer on local businesses, and brighten the lives of families who just needed a little extra love

But MMM isn’t just about giving back—it’s about what we give each other. Laughter. Friendship. A safe place to share life’s struggles and celebrate its joys.

And this year, we have an incredible lineup of speakers and events—from spiritual health to sourdough, exercise to craniosacral therapy, even Bingo with our moms and grandmas. There’s something for everyone.

💖 Modern Mothers of Marion: Busting the Myths 💖

When we started Modern Mothers of Marion, we borrowed our name from a decades-strong group in Versailles, Ohio—a group built on friendship, service, and love for their community.

For us, “modern” isn’t about age or career. It’s about living in this season of life, supporting each other, and making our community stronger—together.

But we’ve heard a few myths floating around… so let’s set the record straight:

❌ Myth #1: “Modern” means young, trendy, or a certain career path.
💡 Truth: Nope! “Modern” simply means moms and mom-like figures building friendships and giving back—right here, right now. Everyone is welcome.

❌ Myth #2: “You have to apply and get accepted.”
💡 Truth: Never! We’ve never turned anyone away. When we first launched, we used a sign-up form just to learn about members’ interests—not to screen them. If you want community, laughter, and a chance to make a difference, you belong here.

❌ Myth #3: “I’m not sure what you’re fundraising for—or what the point of the group is.”
💡 Truth: Every dollar we raise goes back into strengthening our community. Since 2023, we’ve donated over $6,000, hosted 8 community events, and supported neighbors in ways big and small—from sharing meals to putting on Color Dashes in the park. Our “point” is simple: build friendships, give back, and make Marion an even better place for families.
