🚨 COMMUNITY CLARIFICATION REGARDING LAST NIGHT’S INCIDENT
We would like to clarify an incident that occurred at His Way Refuge Center last night, as a report circulating on social media does not accurately reflect what took place.
At approximately after 9:00 PM, a client approached the facility gate. Our gate closes at 8:30 PM for the safety and security of our clients, staff, and facility, and the client was informed that the gate was closed.
The client then made threatening statements toward our staff, indicating that he would return for our staff member.
When the client returned, he was speaking with 911 on his phone and then handed the phone to our staff member. Our staff spoke directly with law enforcement and provided them with the information regarding what had actually occurred.
During that interaction, the client requested to be taken to the hospital because he was experiencing knee pain.
We want our community to know that the incident was not an assault as described in the circulating report, and we are concerned that the AI-transcribed scanner information created an inaccurate impression of what happened.
We appreciate the professionalism of our staff and law enforcement in handling the situation. Our priority will always remain the safety of our clients, staff, and the community we serve.
